Kingdom Of Heaven

“I’m looking for Orcs.”

Kingdom Of Heaven

Kingdom of Heaven is a flawed film. It is epic to a certain point, but the battles are too long and character development isn’t there for most of the characters. The movie deals with the bloody crusades in the Middle East. During this film, Jerusalem is under control of the European Christian armies. A lone Blacksmith must defend the holy city from the Muslim armies.

Orlando Bloom’s plays his character dull and without heart. It seems that he’s trying to hard to act like Legolas reborn. He walks around the movie with same tired expression, while some of the other actors have to take up the acting slack.

The movie feels long and drawn out, yet incomplete. There are some good battle scenes, but there’s too much. Plus, the battles remind me of the battle at Gondor in the Lord of the Rings movies. I respect the director, but I feel that he made some poor choices in the pacing of the film. The music is extremely well used in the movie, except for one scene.

In the end, not a great film, but better than most of the romantic fluff out there.

Grade C+

Note: There is a scene in the movie that uses a large portion of Jerry Goldsmith’s the 13th Warrior. I’m sure people can spot it. It really ticked me off, because I hate when they track in other music from other movies.
