Frank Miller Time

Top 15 WTF comic book moments and Frank Miller thoughts

http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/articles/106-trials/2725-linkara-top-15-wtf-moments-in-comics

Yes, the Spiderman Clone saga was stupid and the Frank Miller All Star Batman was and is beyond strange.

I’m still not even sure why Frank Miller thought no one wouldn’t go “WTF?”. Miller has sort of lost his mind of late, thinking that he can direct a major motion picture by himself. I still think his first Dark Knight Returns was one of the best stories out there.

I do like that he keeps putting the "he's the GD Batman" in all his issues now as if he's in on the joke. And, All Star Batman wasn't supposed to be a joke like he is claiming now.

His view of women isn’t exactly politically correct. Hey I like to look at pretty women too, but he writes women with as busty vixens that are self-centered and men hating. Go back and some of his other comics.

Man, The Spirit has a huge chance of stinking up the theater.

At the end of every rainbow, there is a chest of treasure and a strangely dressed Sam Jackson.

Coming to America (A look back and a review) Part 1 of 2

Coming to America (A look back and a review) Part 1 of 2

I rented the DVD and watched the ‘Making of’ special and watched the movie again.

Coming to America is one of those movies you keep on during channel surfing. It’s that movie people quote all the time. In addition, it is certainly one of Eddie Murphy’s best films to date.

Murphy was certainly at the top of his game in this movie. John Landis would mention that Murphy had changed and he and Eddie would butt heads during the filming. Yet, there is a confidence in his performance here that you simply don’t see in his recent work. There seems to be passion.

Looking back at many older movies, some of them don’t hold up as well today. Coming to America does though.

Prince Akeem, a member of the ruling body of Zumunda, doesn’t like the prearranged wedding that he’s been forced into, so he sets out with his best friend, Arsenio Hall, to America to find the prefect woman.

Sounds simple, and it is.

Eddie Murphy early on stated that he was the one behind the idea for Coming to America. Come to find out, Art Buchwald actually came up with the story idea, but Paramount bumped him out of the story credit. Buchwald sued the studio and won. However, Paramount settled before the court issued the reward.

Despite the legal hang-ups, Murphy and Buchwald came up with a nice, pleasant modern fairytale. The story is cute with just enough dirty jokes to make it an entertaining R-rated comedy.

Plus, the makeup in that Murphy and Hall wear is amazing even by today’s standards. Rick Baker was the man behind the makeup. Baker would later work with Murphy on a few more films, including Norbit.

Best example of Baker’s makeup work is the barbershop scenes. The barbershop group is always funny. Murphy and Hall would both play four characters each thanks to the makeup.

Check out this funny quote…

Cleo McDowell: Look... me and the McDonald's people got this little misunderstanding. See, they're McDonald's... I'm McDowell's. They got the Golden Arches, mine is the Golden Arcs. They got the Big Mac, I got the Big Mick. We both got two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions, but their buns have sesame seeds. My buns have no seeds.

Those are real guns

When they said Black Friday, they didn't mean this...

((Two people were shot to death in a crowded toy store on Black Friday in a confrontation apparently involving rival groups, city officials said.))

This happened in a Toy-R-Us store. For some morbid reason, I can’t get that damn Toy-R-Us song out of my head. Anyway, it this shooting doesn’t bode well for the rest of the Holiday season. Santa might have to start carrying a gun.

There are two possibilities here involving the shooting.

1. The two gun owners knew each other and had a beef: Call me silly, but a toy store isn’t exactly a suitable place to shoot it out.

2. Someone cut someone else in line or took the last Rock Band/Guitar Hero game: Again, if you kill someone over the latest music game, you won’t be at home to watch your kids fail at playing Guitar Hero.

Call me old fashion but Busting caps in someone else usually isn’t in the Christmas spirit.

What would Santa do?

(("Some people got into a fight," said Splain, who spoke with some of the customers. "One of the guys here thought it was over a toy, but it got louder and louder and then there were gunshots."

Sarah Pacia of Cathedral City told The Desert Sun newspaper she was in the store with her two boys, ages 4 and 6, looking at coloring books when she heard a commotion in the next aisle. She thought it was people rushing to get a sale item. Then she heard three or four shots.))

~Casey Anthony in the news again: It would appear someone did a Google search on the phrases Neck Breaking and Shovel on her computer. More and more evidence is mounting on top of this case. When is she going to admit she did it? I usually don't do searches for neck-breaking techniques and such.

~I still can't get over the reports of the horrible attacks in Mumbai in India. There are times when I think we as a human race have made great strides and then something like this happens to disprove that. My heart goes out to the people of India.

~In one of their very last DVD Podblasts, the Adudathuada guys took on the movie Town and Country. What shocked me about this movie was the fact the budget was over 90 million bucks. That's right it took them 90 million to make a romantic comedy. How does a budget get away from them for a stupid Rom-com? Well, for one, it took three years to make this turd. Re-shooting scene boosted the budget up to 90 million and they never made the money back on the film either.

Do you remember Ellen Feiss?

Do you remember Ellen Feiss?

Now, that’s advertising!

I was going through a site that mentioned her and I remembered the Mac Switch campaign way back in 2002. This was before the “I’m a Mac and I’m a PC” ad campaign. Ellen, who was 14 at the time, did two ads for the campaign.

It was revealed in an interview that she did, she was in fact a Mac user and the story did in fact happen. She had to re-do a 15-page paper on Chinatowns in the US.

The thing I didn't know was that she came into some Internet fame after Apple released the ad. This probably had something to do with the legend behind the ad. You see, people wondered if she was high during the filming, because it would explain her strange behavior.

She’s now in college and actually has a starring role in a movie called Bed & Breakfast, despite the fact she had no acting experience.

Yet, some of the fanboy fascination with her is a bit strange.

There are some funny parody pictures with her on a few sites.

I’m still convinced she was high during the filming of the ads. But, I could see her replacing Justin Long in the I’m a Mac ads.

Hello, I’m a PC.

And, I’m Ellen and I’m high.

John Popper plays with the Paula Abdul with his Harmonica and it sounds great. Who knew a Harmonica could improve Paula Abdul’s song?

Here it is from You Tube.

Sounds great doesn’t it?

I think we need to Harmonica up all pop songs.

Side Note: Did you know Paula did the choreographing of that impressive dance number in Coming to America?

To the west

Kanye West is a Douche?

I’d be the first one to admit that I like Kanye West’s music and his videos are pretty interesting. Pretty much all his videos are different. His newer videos have been ‘off the hook’. He seems to have a talent to bring retro styles to his videos and songs. But there is some of a ego problem with him.

Kanye West - Heartless: I don’t care for this song, but I love the style of the animation. Very retro.

Kanye West - Love Lockdown: I like this one too and the song is good. I like the African tribal people in this one.

Kanye West - Good Morning: Again, good song and interesting animation. Look for a Back to the Future reference.

The videos don’t excuse the way he handles himself and the way he views himself. I think only William Shatner has a bigger ego. The first link above does point out some good reasons to consider him a douche.

Here are a few more videos to support the douche theory...

24: Redemption

24: Redemption

A 24 movie?

Somehow, the writers and producers of the show have condensed the format into 2-hour TV movie. Unlike many TV movies, this one is pretty decent. The story is also rather successful too.

This movie is a prequel to the delayed 7th season, and it happens a few years after the 6th season. The setting is in the Africa and on Inauguration Day for a new female president. Jack Bauer is hiding from the US government in the African country of Sangala. Sangala is starting to fall apart due to a civil war, and the rebel group is using children as soldiers.

Redemption is an action-packed film that only strays from the series in location only. And, that is a good thing too. There are some intense moments that remind me of the well-written 5th season, and Kiefer Sutherland is wonderful in a more restrained Jack Bauer.

The good direction on this little movie deserves a mention too. Director Jon Cassar is responsible for that. It felt like a real movie instead of a TV movie.

The movie works as a standalone movie and a prequel to the upcoming season. Jon Voight is the villain character that is setup for the upcoming season, because there is no payoff in this movie for him here. And, that will drive some people away from the movie. However, the action set pieces are good and you can’t go wrong with Bauer going Metal Gear Solid 3 and Rambo on some rebels.

Okay, FOX I’m sold on seeing a real theatrical 24 movie.

~Katie Couric talks about her time with Sarah Palin: First off, Katie has some amazing legs! She’s very honest about her interview with Sarah Palin. In a strange way, I've always had a crush on Katie Couric.

~How the moon was formed: There's been many theories as to how exactly the moon was made. She basically supports the theory that something hit the Earth when it was forming and moon formed from that broken off piece. Giant Impact hypothesis is the the theory I believe she's talking about.

~Joe the Plumber has a Book Deal?: The Paris Hilton of politics Joe is getting a book deal. Okay, I'm jealous, I can't get a book deal, but a below average Joe can? five questions about Madonna...

I like the older woman as much as the next guy, I really do. But, can Madonna at least dress a bit more conservative now? Some pants or longer skirt might be nice.

You’re not in the 1980s now. I’m not saying this because of her age, but because she’s starting to look a like a dude. I’m just saying…

Anyway, I do have five questions about Madonna.

1. Is the British accent real or put on?

2. What happens when Guy Ritchie hears one of her songs on the radio? Does he turn the channel or cry in his drink?

3. Is there a way to travel back in time and stop a very young Madonna from starring in Who's That Girl and Shanghai Surprise? We could very well live in a world where there never was a movie called Swept Away.

4. Does she still sing some of her older songs from the 80s and earlier 90s; you know the good ones, in her newer concerts?

5. How does one follow Dennis Rodman both physically and mentally? Remember she dated Rodman for a while.

~A few spoilers from the new Abrams Star Trek film: The fact they're putting many Trek references into the film makes me really pleased with the new direction. The writer mentions the contenuoty mistake with the mention of a Cardassian Sunrise drink, but it was never made clear when the Cardassians were encountered first. (Actually, they were mentioned in conflicts that predated the TNG time line)

~It would appear that Bolt is getting beat down by emo-vampires: This Disney film is receiving good reviews, yet young teenage and pre-teen girls prefer watching Twilight. Bolt is hovering around 84% on Rotten Tomatoes and Twilight is at 44%. Gee, I wonder which movie is better...

~ Four Christmases another Fred Claus?: Vince Vaughn is in another Christmas movie. Didn’t the studio guys get the hint with the failure of Fred Claus? Check out the trailer if you want, but it is pretty bad. I remember there being reports of tension on the set between Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn. Of course, everyone is saying there weren't any problems. Has there been a X-mass movie aimed at grown ups that's been a hit recently?

Nudity in Advertising

Nudity in Advertising

American Apparel is doing some interesting ads of late, which involve breasts.

((Known for being fearlessly risqu̩, American Apparel has yet again used shock tactics to its advantage. Its latest effort: using nudity to sell clothes. The company has rolled out a banner ad that displays a topless model Рboobs, nipples and a tantalizing unzipping of her top.))

Yeah, American Apparel promotions and ads have always been ‘on the edge’. One of the topless ads has the pornstar Charlotte Stokely unzipping her top (She's on the right side, not safe at work) and showing her ‘love pillows’. Another ad has a model showing off her top too.

Unlike Abercrombie & Fitch, I really like these ads. There doesn’t seem to be any strange bi-sexual context to the American Apparel ads, just naked women. As long as they use the nude ads in adult aimed sites, I'm aright with it. Hell, I could see Burger King and White Castles using these ads methods too.

Keep in mind that by bringing out these 'nude' ads people that protest and complain about tthem are falling into the whole American Apparel plan. They want to create controversy and it is just free press for them, which is a smart idea. The world won't blow up because a clothing company shows a little skin in banners. It just makes it better.

The problem I have with these ads is the connection between nudity and clothing. If there are two concepts that are completely on the opposite sides of the spectrum, it's nudity and clothing. Are we supposed to buy these clothes in order to get naked? I'm confused. You want your models with your company clothes on, not taking them off.

Paula Goodspeed (Stalker of Paula Abdul)

Paula Goodspeed (Stalker of Paula Abdul)

Yes the video above is very creepy. This was the woman who died near Paula’s house.

E! news is reporting that no official cause in the autopsy, but something tells me there were probably some type of drugs involved.

((Goodspeed’s body was found in her car near Abdul’s home last Tuesday night. Police suspect it was a suicide.))

The even crazier thing was the fact she attempted suicide before, but making good on it the last time. And she did it before near Paula Abdul's house both times.

As the video reveals, Goodspeed was a Huge fan of Abdul. However, I'm not sure as to why that was. Has Abdul not had a hit in the past 12 years besides that stupid reality show? At some point, you move on despite how unstable you are right?

Then there are the reports of Abdul leaving America Idol. Idol is the only reason people care about this batty woman. Yet, reality producers are still giving her shows, even after the train wreck that was Hey, Paula!

Nutty Professor III?

A Nutty Professor III: (Still Klumping)?

Please tell me this is some elaborate joke on the producers' part.

((Rumor has it, another sequel to "The Nutty Professor", the remake of Jerry Lewis-starring 1963 film, is brewing.))

Uh-oh. Do we really need another family-friendly Eddie Murphy film after Meet Dave, which Eddie didn’t even bother to show up to the premiere to? Hasn't it been proven that not even Eddie's supporters are through with his movies?

Didn’t they already do a Nutty Professor III movie in the form of Norbit?

And if I remember correctly, Eddie distanced himself from The Nutty Profressor II before it was released. After making the film, I don't he'd support it.

Yes, the first remake Nutty Professor movie was good, and not to mention Jada Pinkett Smith was cute, but do we need to revisit this franchise again?

Where can they go after a giant hamster takes center stage in the 2nd movie?

Light the fires and signal Rohan to help stop this movie.

True Blood

True Blood seems to be catching on...

((The HBO series also benefits from proximity to this week's much-anticipated release of the "Twilight" movie, another spooky drama about a girl and the vampire who loves her. Another parallel: "Twilight" is also based on a literary series. (HBO, like CNN, is a unit of Time Warner.) ))

Alan Ball, Six Feet Under, is the headmaster behind this show. It has some Alan Ball moments too. Anna Paquin stars in the show. (The girl from X-Men)

I’m not going to lie; somehow this new show has gotten my attention. At first, I didn’t think I’d like the show, but overtime I can’t stop watching it. Plus, HBO makes it easier for me to watch it because they reshow it a few times in the week.

I think the concept is brilliant.

What would happen if the whole world discovered that Vampires were real and living among us?

I like how Vampires are considered second-class citizens, but the higher up vamps don’t like humans. It was also revealed there are shape shifters and werewolves in this universe as well. There’s something refreshing about seeing a real world mix with a fantasy world.

I'm looking forward to the season finale.

Random Things

You are NOT watching MADtv!

Random Things

~Eddie Murphy's take on Star Trek: This is from Eddie’s old stand up comedy Delirious. This was back when he was funny and before Pluto Nash and Norbit.

~Earthworm Jim on the PSP (canceled): The game was supposed to come out in 2006, but Atari canceled it, due the money problems, even though the game was nearly complete (wiki says 80%). (As seen in the video demo in the link) It’s a remake, but I’m amazed how good the game looks on the PSP.

~Fox finally got around to canceling MadTV. I didn't even know this crappy 'comedy' show was still on the air even today. Fox tends to cancel things prematurely, yet they kept this show going for years. Watching the show get canceled is probably one of the funniest things that's happened on Madtv for years.

Don't get me wrong, there are some great moments here and there, but not even Fox bothered to promote that the show was still on the air. There was a window that people started to use catch phrases from the show, but even that's long gone. And there have been some cast members that have made names for themselves. But, I saw it being a slightly better version of In Living Color.

~It also looks like Christian Slater is out of a job...again. NBC has canceled his show My Own Worst Enemy. His worst enemy seems to be the freaking network. I never got around to watching this show, but the premise seemed interesting to me. Slater can go back to doing nothing again.

Some of the stuff in the trailer is fairly entertaining. However, I’m not sure about the opening with the young adventurous James Kirk in an old car being chased by the police. It doesn’t ring true.

I do like the design of the new version of the Enterprise as well.

We do get some glimpses into the Romulans and a few other Federation ships as well. I’m still a bit on the fence on this movie.

Btw, was that Chris Pike in the Captain’s chair?

Did Steve Jobs create the new bridge?

Quantum of Solace

Bond realizes he left the keys in his locked car...
______________________

Quantum of Solace

The Bond Ultimatum

This newest James Bond movie has a sharper story, but has some serious pacing problems toward the end of the film. Quantum of Solace has a collection of faster action scenes than Casino Royale, but retains the darker and grittier elements from the earlier movie. We finally see Bond becoming a better agent throughout this second story.

Quantum of Solace begins nearly an hour after the last scene from Casino Royale. The movie begins with an impressive shaky-cam car chase. The actual stunts, like the rest of the movie, are impressive, but the crazy shaky-cams and frantic editing hamper those stunts.

One of the stronger elements from this movie is the tight continuity between the two films. You have to watch both movies to see the larger picture. And, the larger picture involves a new organization called Quantum; very much like the old villain group SPECTRE from the early Bond films. Learning about the Quantum group is what keeps the movie interesting, and will keep you interested into watching the next Bond film.

Daniel Craig again will impress you with his version of James Bond. Let’s just say he’s even more of a badass here, and he ruthlessly kills Quantum agents left and right without a pause. Craig plays a better brooding Bond than Timothy Dalton did back in the late 80s.

Olga Kurylenko is the newest Bond girl, and she really handles herself fairly well. It’s good to see a stronger Bond girl in these films. Olga is very restrained in her role, which is a nice change of pace. Judi Dench has a slightly bigger role in the second reboot film, but she just playing “I’m the boss and I’m pissed off at you, James,” role again. Mathieu Amalric as Dominic Greene (the bad guy) is a bit of a letdown, but the writers are going for more restrained villains in these newer films. It’s forgivable.

Overall, Quantum of Solace is an entertaining film, but not as enjoyable as Casino Royale. It is certainly light-years ahead of most action films that Hollywood releases today. If you’re going to watch it, watch it for its interconnecting storyline with the first Craig Bond film and the acting.

Grade: B

James Bond tries a new attack called 'The Super Mario Attack'. It involves a person jumping on top of their enemies and flattening them. Don't let Bond get that floating feather or fire plant.

This is strange

Just as a strange follow up, here's a video to the Sega CD.

What's the deal with the clay animation stuff?

Anyway, this goes into the strange videogame “Make My Video”.

I'm not even sure where to begin. In a strange way, Sony had something to do with the development of this 'make your own video' concept for Sega. But, this game has been rated as one of the worst games in history by certain sites.

Here's a play-through with the CC music video and re-editing. Is this the early 'after birth' of music videogames? I still can't give over the fact Sony published a game on a Sega console. Keep in mind, this was just before Sony and Nintendo started to work together to form a CD based videogame console.

When the Sega CD had things like this to offer, what was the reason for people to buy CD player expansion.

Man, these videos are bad.

The Sega Channel

The Sega Channel

From the movie The Cable Guy,

Chip Douglas: The future is now! Soon every American home will integrate their television, phone and computer. You'll be able to visit the Louvre on one channel, or watch female wrestling on another. You can do your shopping at home, or play Mortal Kombat with a friend from Vietnam. There's no end to the possibilities!

Most people have completely forgotten about the Sega Channel. Watching The Cable Guy on HBO, I remember the foreshadowing Jim Carrey’s character made during the movie. He was spot on, but the being of this digital revalution began with the Sega Channel.

http://www.answers.com/topic/sega-channel

((For a monthly subscription fee (usually $14.95 depending on location), along with a $25 activation fee, the subscriber would get an adapter, which plugged into the Genesis cartridge slot, and was connected to their cable television connection. The service would provide them with unlimited access to 50 games, selectable through an on-screen menu, with new games appearing every month and later every 2 weeks. The games would be downloaded in about 1 minute and play just like the retail versions. These games were organized by genre, such as Action, Fighting, Adventure, and Family. Each month, there was a special theme with originally composed music, artwork and game categories.))

In Louisville, we didn’t have the Sega channel. But I remember seeing it in action in Frankfort, KY when I was on campus way back in the day. This predates many of the online gaming system in the late 90s and 00s. Sega made a bold move by creating this channel, which paved the way for how we play games today. (The Wii is very close to this service.)

Yet, the Sega Channel was also a failure too.

Here were a few problems

~The channel was connected through the Sega Genesis: The Genesis was at the end of its lifespan and already had a couple of other add-ons. The Genesis was on the way out by this time and there wasn’t much room for improvement.

~Sega had to make deals directly with cable companies: Which meant not everyone could have this channel. As far as I can remember, Louisville didn’t have the channel.

~Genesis players already owned many of the games available on the channel. (Genesis is planet forbidden! Sorry Star Trek III reference. )

However, I still can’t believe they thought of this before XBOX Live and PS3’s online features. Plus, this paved the way for SegaNet.

Check out this annoying TV ad.

Here are some more detail and memories about the channel.

Dance Flick

Dance Flick (A Wayans Brothers' Production)

Check out the trailer over here.

Any movie that has a woman shooting a baby out of her body and onto the dance floor is a bit too much.

After all the spoof movies, like Date Movie and Epic Movie, you would think someone would put an end to this. Hollywood has dug up the Wayans Brothers for another spoof movie. This time they’re taking on all those dance movies that seem to be clogging up the theaters. My confidence is low because they’re involved.

But, I have to say I enjoyed the first Scary Movie, the one of two movies created by the Wayans Brothers.

That’s probably the only exception, because I generally can’t stand most of the Wayans brothers and their body of crap, uh, I mean work. (Keenen Ivory Wayans was okay in A Low Down Dirty Shame)

What’s worst, Spoof movies or Dance movies?

If we can find a way to spoof spoof movies, we'd have a hit.

The new Watchmen trailer

The new Watchmen trailer has surfaced, I have to say this is looking better and better.

Comment: I’ve read about 20 pages of the Watchmen comic book and I’m really digging it. I just hope enough people show up to see the movie.

The development of this movie is a long story, and actually it was in a longer development stage than Superman Reborn/Returns. There is so much legal red tape that I’m surprised its actually coming out.

Then there’s the Alan Moore issue with him completely distancing himself from the film. I know WB screwed Moore over a couple of times, but I think he should set aside his grudge against Hollywood and WB and watch the movie.

I hope this movie is good.

~Crazy Drunk guy holds up bus: The bus driver handles the drunk guy fairly well. He even blocks the teenager from causing trouble when the drunk guy wants to pick a fight with the teen. A true professional this bus driver. If this happened in the states, someone was going to get punched.

~Blade Runner The Final Cut: I’ve watching all the extras on the newer Blade Runner DVD that came out last year. From what I can tell this cut is comprised of three other cuts of the film that’s been floating around. The “Making of” special feature is amazing and very frank. Ridley Scott and the film crew hated each other. Harrison Ford was unhappy and didn’t get along with Sean Young.

~BTW, I had completely forgotten that Edward James Olmos was in the film. He speaks a strange 'city speak', which involves various languages mixed together.

~WOW addiction at its worst: This guy even has a girlfriend and he still can't stop playing the game. However, I can understand why the game is addicting. I generally hate trying to be social and an online RPG is a good way to escape from your mundane/crappy world. There was a guy at work that played nothing but videogames, who just got fired, and he was a mess. All he did was talk about videogames. And he was a physical mess. He was so fat that he looked pregnant. Oh, he's only 18 years old but looked thirty.

If I got all gussied up, I'd be more than a little pissed (Pun intended) about the situation. When the rappers say 'make it rain', this wasn't what they had in mind. There’s an R-Kelly Joke in there somewhere.

~The New Knight Rider changes lanes: It looks like the new show Knight Rider is about to get a major shake up. This show really needs to stop aiming for the CW crowd and actually do good storylines. But it seems it's not even going to do that.

~I've been watching the show Pushing Daisies on ABC.com. Bryan Fuller (ST VOY and Dead Like Me) created this show. I can see the strong influences from Dead Like Me in the premise. So far, I’m like the show. It looks like Fuller might come back to Heroes this season.

Drop Zone (1994)

Drop Zone

While escorting a prisoner hacker on an airliner, cops Pete and Terry Nessip encounter a group of hijackers. These hijackers take the hacker and jump out of the airliner, and Pete’s brother is killed in the process. Pete takes it upon himself to find the people responsible for the attack and his brother’s death. (His brother is played by one of the Cosby kids from The Cosby Show.) He has to get into the world of Skydiving to discover the truth.

If you replaced a few nouns, this could have described any ‘extreme’ heist movie from the 90s.

I just watched this movie last night on HBO. Most people completely overlook it. It stars Wesley Snipes as Pete Nessip. This little action movie came out in December of 1994. Drop Zone starts off feeling like a cheap knock off of Snipes’ other movie Passenger 57, but it turns into a skydiving version of Point Break. Heck, they even brought in Busey from Point Break.

The biggest flaw of the movie is that it follows every action movie cliché down to a T. (Minus the male and female leads falling in love. Wesley Snipes and Yancy Butler characters never get it on or have any sexual relationship.) You throw in a guitar-heavy Hans Zimmer and you have another 90s action film.

The plot is unsteady, and some characters are a bit annoying. (On a Jar-Jar level) However, the charm comes from action scenes, which are better than the slower character moments, and the humor is pretty good too. Wesley Snipes also brings his same police office character type from every movie with him, and yet it doesn’t get old. Gary Busey as the main bad guy is entertaining, if similar to characters from Under Siege and Lethal Weapon. He kept my interest.

Drop Zone isn’t a great movie by any standards, but it’s a by-the-numbers fun 90s action film when Snipes was sill getting top billing in theatrical released films. It’s a basic fun popcorn movie that you can watch on a Saturday night.

Grade: C+

~The best Snipes moment is when he punches Yancy Butler in the face like a man. Originally, her character was supposed to be a man and when it was switched to a woman role, she argued for the punching scene to be left in. And, it is a great moment.

Under The Bridge: The Literal Version (Red Hot Chili Peppers)

Under The Bridge: The Literal Version

________________

Once again, the guy making these videos does another great job rewriting the song for the literal version. I really like this Red Hot Chili Peppers song, but the original video is a little silly. I still think the second video is his best work, this is still entertaining.

I like Anthony Kiedis, a real talent. But for some reason, this dude can’t keep his shirt on. I bet he goes to Starbucks shirtless. He probably does those strange arm gestures and flexes when he makes his order. “I’d take a cappuccino and give it away, give it away, give it away now!”

Anyway, I loved the Slow-motion bit in the video. You have to wonder if slow-motion running is some kind of condition he has. Now, if we can get Kiedis breaking and falling out of a chair (Slow Motion), we’d be all set.

Make sure to check out this guy’s site (http://www.dustfilms.com/)

His name is Dustin McLean, and he’s been interviewed by the Boston Globe. And check it out.
