De-constructing Tim Burton Part III

For this last post on Tim Burton, I wanted to rate my top Tim Burton films in order.

So, here we go.

5. Sleepy Hollow: Some people hate this movie, and it does have some flaws. However, there just something cool about the headless horseman. Plus, I enjoyed Johnny Depp’s take on Ichabod Crane. There are many great actors and actresses in this film. I think people overlook this movie, but they should give it another try.

4. Beetle Juice: Man, this is a Freaking funny dark comedy. Baldwin and Geena (where is she now?) Davis are both great in this strange comedy about death. But, Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice steals the movie from an otherwise strong cast of characters. The singing at the dinner table is still one of the best moments in film history. Great stuff.

3. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: I can’t really compare the older film to this remake, but I found this movie to be very enjoyable. Once again, Johnny Depp is wonderfully creepy in his role as Willy Wonka. The musical numbers were also pleasant. This version explains a great deal of the history behind Willy and his chocolate factory.

2. Batman: While I like Batman Begins better, nothing can compare to the amazing visuals and music of the first ‘real’ Batman film. The post-industrial world Burton creates here is just glorious to look at. We finally get a peek at a darker Batman and an interesting take on the Joker. When he’s restrained like this, Burton is at his best. (Note: I don’t like that Batman is a mass-murderer in this movie though.)

1. Pee-wee's Big Adventure: Some might not agree with me, but I still think this is Burton’s best film to date. I still have fond memories of this movie and still quote the movie. This movie was also the first Burton/Elfman team up. Most people forget this was a Burton Film. What a fun movie.
