De-constructing Tim Burton Part 2 of 3

I didn't want to come down too hard on the guy, so here are a few of his positive aspects.

1. 1. He has a distinctive style: While his style can get exhausting, you can usually point out his movies from the get go. They’ll always exciting visually.

2. Danny Elfman: Time and time again, Mr. Elfman proves that his music is multilayered and dark at the same time. He score to Batman (89) is still on of the best superhero movie scores out there. Steven Spielberg has John Williams, and Tim Burton has Danny Elfman.

3. He does dark comedy fairly well: I think Beetle Juice and Pee Wee’s Big Adventure are his funniest movies to date. I’d like to see put a bit more humor into his movie, but Mars Attack was a bit too much. He needs a balance.

Despite some missteps, he’s been able to make the movies he’s desired to make: I don’t agree with his choices sometimes, but I’ll give praise in this area.

5. Recruits some strange actors and legendary actors: Good actors are willing to work with him, such as Alec Baldwin, Johnny Depp, Christopher Lee

Burton does have more style over substance for sure. I still find it hard to believe he has such a following after 1992, when he just took the designs of the sets of Nightmare before Christmas and reapplied it for Batman Returns, mainly for the Penguin's hideout. It was like he half heartedly attempted to make something different. Of course, the success of that movie speaks for itself.

One of things I noticed while watching Batman Returns is that the designs (Batman Mobile and Batman suit) don't fit into the more twisted styles of Returns and stick out.

The second movie is such a departure that I really can't say they share the same universe.
