24: Redemption

24: Redemption

A 24 movie?

Somehow, the writers and producers of the show have condensed the format into 2-hour TV movie. Unlike many TV movies, this one is pretty decent. The story is also rather successful too.

This movie is a prequel to the delayed 7th season, and it happens a few years after the 6th season. The setting is in the Africa and on Inauguration Day for a new female president. Jack Bauer is hiding from the US government in the African country of Sangala. Sangala is starting to fall apart due to a civil war, and the rebel group is using children as soldiers.

Redemption is an action-packed film that only strays from the series in location only. And, that is a good thing too. There are some intense moments that remind me of the well-written 5th season, and Kiefer Sutherland is wonderful in a more restrained Jack Bauer.

The good direction on this little movie deserves a mention too. Director Jon Cassar is responsible for that. It felt like a real movie instead of a TV movie.

The movie works as a standalone movie and a prequel to the upcoming season. Jon Voight is the villain character that is setup for the upcoming season, because there is no payoff in this movie for him here. And, that will drive some people away from the movie. However, the action set pieces are good and you can’t go wrong with Bauer going Metal Gear Solid 3 and Rambo on some rebels.

Okay, FOX I’m sold on seeing a real theatrical 24 movie.
