Blade (the opening scene)

Blade (the opening scene)

This was probably one of best openings for a superhero movie, besides Superman The Movie. Here you have a former Pornstar bringing a dude to a techno club, and it turns out they’re all vampires. I love their reactions to a normal human walking around their club.

The best part is when Blade enters the room and kicks some major ass. Plus he kills Tracy Lords in an interesting fashion. I always noted that Blade in the movies seemed to really enjoy killing vampires. This was different take from the Punisher. Looking back at this film, I just hate where the franchise went with Blade III. (A PG 13 Blade movie?)

Stephen Norrington directed this movie and I think he would have had an interesting career doing comic book movies. However, Norrington has pretty much written off Hollywood and stopped making movies. This is sad, because you can tell he certainly had an interesting style in Blade.

Oh my, that was awesome! I remember seeing it in the cinema and been overwhelmed by the sight of all that blood.

PJ: Yeah, that scene just grabbed me when I watched it in the theater. I liked his use of the blood and the flashing lights, simply brilliant. Let's not forget the intro of Wesley Snipes.

Ammar: That music just fits with what is happening on the screen. My creative writing teacher always told me that you should alway start a story with something big happening (action). It gets people's attention. This opening is a prime example of that

I totally agree. I remember watching this in the theater and I was truly terrified at the thought of that one guy, all alone in a room full of vampires as blood rains down on them all. And then when Blade comes in and wipes them all out, it was both ends of the spectrum right there and a GREAT way to start off a movie. I also agree that Stephen Norrington would have had a huge directing career had it not been for his awful experience with LXG. Such a shame.

Julian, I still go back and watch this wonder scene. It just kicks major ass every time.
