Pride and Glory

Pride and Glory

Pride and Glory is surprisingly a good corrupt cop drama film. I didn’t expect much from this film. To be honest, I thought it was knockoff of the Departed. However, it really isn’t. If anything, it feels more like a first cousin to The Shield. With some decent writing and outstanding performances from the entire cast, this movie ends up being better than the trailers will lead you to believe.

Edward Norton is the main star for about the first half of the movie. He’s pretty good as the straight-laced cop in the all-cop family. The movie does kind of shift to Colin Farrell and Noah Emmerich after a certain plot turn. Farrell is actually good in his restrained performance.

There are some pacing problems where some scenes do linger on for a while. One scene with Norton trying to get information out of a drug user is one example. Perhaps, this movie needed a bit more editing. (However, it has been stated that the movie sat on the shelf for two years.)

Pride and Glory won’t win any awards or have anyone talking about it. It is a reasonable film with some enjoyable acting from Farrell and Norton. I don’t think a lot of people will be that interested in the movie, but it is certainly light years better than Righteous Kill or 88 Minutes.

Grade: C+

At this very moment, Jon Voight realizes that Michael Bay didn’t call him back for Transformers II.

Voight: “Damn it, they did the same thing to me with Tomb Raider II.”

James Note: I didn’t even resort to mentioning or joking about Angelina Jolie. Until now…crap.

Noah Emmerich: “You know I’ve always had a thing for Super Heroes. It is kind of a fetish. I’m going to close my eyes and kiss you. Is that okay?”

Norton: “No!”

Edward Norton: “Don’t feel bad. When you compare it to Miami Vice, Alexander wasn’t that bad of a movie.”

Colin Farrell: “That’s doesn’t make me feel any better.”
