Random Thoughts about Predator

After re-watching the movie, I’ve come to the conclusion that this movie is much better than last expected. It isn’t as good as the first movie, but I think it holds its own. The first one is a classic.

-Danny Glover is pretty good as the asshole cop that kicks ass and takes name. Plus, he has some nice suits.

- Elpidia Carrillo has a tiny part in the movie. She was one of the survivors from the first movie. You will see a picture of her during the video screen stuff in Busey’s truck. I’m guessing that was what was left of her debriefing scene in this movie, which was cut. Why would someone cut that scene out?

-City fighting: I love that they moved the setting to LA. We see that fits with the Predators mode of operations. It is hot and it is a war zone. I thought they could have expanded the whole Drug Warlords vs. the Predator thing out some more.

-This Predator has more personality than the other one. He also sounds different.

-There is no reason for this Predator to finish the famous line (You are one ugly Mother-f’er.) How would he know that? That’s too close to breaking the ‘fourth wall’. Granted he’s been watching gang members and drug dealers.

-This movie is certainly more cynical and violent than the first movie. Everyone has a gun and gangs and hookers are everywhere.

- Alan Silvestri score is amazing. It’s bigger than the first movie’s score. He added ethnic drums to the main theme.

-“Okay, who’s next?” Best line in the movie when he sees the other Predators.

-This movie also gives us a twist in the form of the added information that the Predator race has been visiting Earth for a long time. The leader Predator gives Danny a gun from 1715. (It is strongly hinted that they’ve been to Earth before in the first movie.)

-Like the first movie, this movie ends on a shot of a chopper.

-Teri Weigel is the chick that’s completely naked almost throughout her scenes. Yeah, she’s a pornstar. She has a great body.

-Yeah, that was a skull from the Aliens series. Fanboys everywhere creamed their pants when they saw it.

-Leona Cantrell subplot: There was a subplot involving Cantrell having a relationship with Danny Glover’s character. That’s the reason he is shocked to find out she is pregnant.
