Fast & Furious (4 Fast 4 Furious)
4 Fast is somewhat a disappointment. For a movie that is supposed to be a popcorn flick, it comes across as a boring movie. With a boring script, there isn’t much of a reason to watch this movie.
Vin Diesel mopes around depressed. Plus, Vin is talking slower than usual in this sequel. There isn’t any of the stupid fun or action that the other Furious films had.
It just feels like the movie is trying too hard to be profound. A certain character dies and Diesel attempts to show emotion but fails. To be fair, Vin looks completely bored in the entire film. With a script this poorly written, who can blame him?
Paul Walker appears to have a little more fun in this movie than Diesel, despite Walker’s terrible acting. Usually, actors get better with age, not so with Walker. He has somehow de-evolved. There are moments when his acting becomes comical. This is a shame, because Walker’s character could have gone through some major character arcs in a better story.
Okay, the story and acting isn’t that great. I did like the Mexico locations. It gave the story a different flavor. The music by Brian Tyler is surprisingly good. The cars are also nice to look at.
For some reason, Justin Lin felt the need to pack this movie with unconvincing CGI effects. While the car effects in the Transformers movie are more realistic, the CGI cars here are just poorly designed.
In the end, the movie can’t even live up to the popcorn standards. The movie just comes across as boring with terrible acting. There are a few chase scenes worth watching though. The movie needed more fun and action.
Grade: C-
Paul: "True that"
