Enrique Iglesias: “I Like It”

Enrique Iglesias: “I Like It”

This is another one of those artists that have decided to downgrade his style to meet the subpar standards of today’s music. Somehow, Enrique has morphed himself into Rick Martin’s style. Enrique sort of came out at the same time as Martin. But Enrique made it clear that he was completely different than the soapy Ricky Martin. I’m not a fan of the Auto-tune stuff, but the retro stuff in the songs brings it up better than most of the stuff coming out today. Again, Enrique doesn’t need to use Auto-tune.

However, because Enrique took a more pop-sounding take on this song, the song is a huge hit for him. And, to be fair, I like “I like it” mainly because it seems like the song is the same key as Lionel Richie’s “All Night Long (All Night)”. And, that’s where I have to give Enrique props for using lines from Lionel Richie’s ultimate party song. (“Party, Karamu, Fiesta, Forever”)

I’m guessing I’m giving this song a pass because it does have the feel of the party songs from the 80s and 90s. It is fun song, despite sounding a bit too much like Enrique covering Ricky Martin.

Grade: B-

Notes

-Drink every time the cameraman points the camera at a woman’s crotch area. You’ll be drunk by the end of the video.

-The actual FX shots of Enrique dancing sideways on items on the set are very impressive. He is certainly paying tribute to Lionel Richie and that Dancing on the Ceiling video.

-Did Pitbull just compare himself to Tiger Woods and Jesse James? Here are the lyrics ((Let’s Party on the White house Lawn, Tiger woods’ tired of Jesse James, Here goes Pitbull all night long, Pick up Barack and Michelle and let’em that's it’s on,)) What?

-There are random shots of girls in underwear jumping on beds…in slow motion. I’m not complaining, but I just wanted to note it. Did we just go into a Victoria’s Secret ad?

-There are some differences between the music video version of the song and single version.

Sadly, there is another version of the song out there…The Jersey Shore version

Here is a mashup of All Night Long and I Like It
