Elton John, Sir you suck

Semaj takes on Elton John (no, not in that way)

http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2007350453,00.html

It looks like Elton John making some stupid statements about the Internet. Trust me, I have some problems with it myself, but here he is sounding like an old fart.

((He claims it is destroying good music, saying: “The internet has stopped people from going out and being with each other, creating stuff.))

Actually, the Internet has helped people get instant feedback for their work and has helped people ‘create stuff’.

((Instead they sit at home and make their own records, which is sometimes OK but it doesn’t bode well for long-term artistic vision.))

Given the bullshit that is force fed to us from the RIAA and their marketing bastards, I’ll take some of this underground stuff over the legit stuff. Uh, ‘candle in the wind’ I’m sure has very little long-term artistic vision.

We no longer have to go through the middle-man (Recording and Movie industries.) and everyone has a chance to get his or her voice heard.

((We’re talking about things that are going to change the world and change the way people listen to music and that’s not going to happen with people blogging on the internet.))

Now, you’re being a complete douche bag. Minus the Myspace shit, bloggers and readers finally have a powerful voice, their own. We actually get to hear and read people’s opinions and not numbers and ratings. This is a new age where anyone and everyone can get a little bit of limelight. Are you related to Robert Novak?

((I mean, get out there — communicate.))

Like right now?

((Hopefully the next movement in music will tear down the internet.))

What exactly is this next movement? Are talking about the bathroom kind of movement? Is the RIAA taking a dump on the Internet? How do you tear down something that you can’t grab a hold?

((There’s too much technology available.))

Uh, not exactly. There is the digital divide. There is still a huge portion population of poor people out there that doesn’t have the digital technology and information to get ahead in life. The more this divide increases, the more people are going to be left behind in the revolution. I think there should to be more technology for more people out there.

((I don’t have a mobile phone or an iPod or anything.))

I’ll let you in on a secret, Mr. John. I just got a cell phone last month, and I don’t have an ipod either. I barely use my cell phone, and I hate cell phones. So, we can agree on something.

Hahaha, his article made me laugh more than scoff, because he is exactly what the Veterans were doing to the 70s generation. A new thing comes along or has finally arisen, and people think it's all bad, and something should remove it for the good of the nation/world.

btw Sir Elton, evern heard of a LAN Party? I don't think people stayed away from each other, email has brought communication to new highs,. And what does sitting at home making your own records have to do with artistic vision, when some hugely popular bands were just starting out, they didn't have a theater, they practised in their dad's garages, only now the difference is they are able to record what they make and share it.

“And there are more albums released each week now than there were then.”

You fool, there are a few billion people more, dont you think more would be released per person.

There, now i tore into him a bit

I agree, The net gives anyone a chance to hear their music and get direct feedback to improve on their work.

Yeah, Elton John has forgotten that most of these musicians got their start from being in the underground scene.

Plus, by having these bands and musicians have their music and promotion done through the web, they can actually make a direct profit and forward the artistic vision ahead.

Very good insight, Blayde

The most revealing comment he makes, actually, is when he says he doesn't have a mobile phone or an iPod, because he's appeared in ads for both. So, his fervent disbelief in digital technology certainly hasn't stopped him from profiting off of it (not to mention CD sales). If I were Elton John, I'd be cranky too, if only because I hadn't made any truly great music since 1974.

Man, that's so true! He hasnt had a huge hit in a long time.

He certainly seems to be one of the most cranky guys out there. I guess getting older brings more bitterness.

I had forgotten about the Ipod stuff he did.
