Thoughts on the Star Trek: The Motion Picture score part 1

Okay she’s bald, but she’s still hot.

Thoughts on the Star Trek: The Motion Picture score

This is probably one the best scores Jerry Goldsmith ever wrote. It’s loud and quiet at the same time. As I said before, the use of the blaster beam was a wonderful idea. Jerry Goldsmith seemed to really enjoy himself with this score.

1. Ilia's Theme: The CD opens with one of the prettiest themes Goldsmith ever wrote. It almost doesn’t sound like a Trek song. The piano solo is absolutely stunning. It doesn’t get any better than this folks. This theme is carried throughout the entire score.

2. Main Title: This was the new theme for Star Trek, which carried over to the Next Generation. There are some differences between this version and the TNG version. The movie version is more march-like.

3The Klingon Battle: The name says it all. The Klingon March is heard for the first time with this track. It is strong and mean, while nearly not as powerful as V’ger’s theme. The two themes battle it out, before the powerful V’ger theme takes over completely.

The Klingon theme will go through many changes but sound similar through various composers. Horner and Ron Jones kept close to the theme the most.

She's hot precisely BECAUSE she's bald. Or more to the point, perhaps - Bald is hot because of her? I was five or six years old at the time, which should suffice to explain what I'm saying.
