No Sallah in IJ4? Come on Lucas...

No Sallah in Indiana Jones 4?

Okay, this got me a little upset when I read it. I always liked this character and he's one of Indiana's best friends and loyal allies in two of the movies. The reason behind him getting written out: According to the site, Rhys-Davies was asked about his appearance in the film at a recent Sci-Fi convention in New Zealand. He answered that, through a third party, he was told his character was written out of the script in favor of "a younger cast."

As the writer of the link above stated, was he ever written into the script? However, it is a little troubling that Mr. John Rhys-Davies doesn't have a part in the new movie. At least a cameo, come on Lucas, you included Jar-Jar in Episode III, but he served no purpose in that plot. But, you can't include Rhys-Davies in this movie? Then again were talking about a guy that produced Howard the Duck...

BTW, aiming for a younger crowd isn't the way to go, Indiana Jones has a built in audience and don't go pandering to a younger group. They'll come anyway.

This is a bummer. *sits next to Semaj and hangs her head in defeat* all the good stuff is getting screwed these days.

The more I hear about this project, the more I'm starting to worry about it. I think MC was right about Lucas butting out of the developing process.

Man this movie is going to suck. Someone needs to put George Lucas down now before he can make any more movies.

I just read an interview with Frank Darabont and he talks about the year it took him to write his draft of the Indy 4 script, how he and Speilberg loved it but Lucas hated it and was difficult to work with. Not suprising from the man who claims Empire Strikes Back is his least favorite Wars movie.

I read that on MC's blog too. I am beginning to dread the Star Wars series now. It appears Lucas has lost touch with everything.

Tv Series that is

didn't Lucas have cancer or something at one time? did he actually fully recover? I mean perhaps it all the chemo on the brain that is screwing the fans over?
All I know is that this new Animated Star Wars series is still being worked on and we havn't seen anything yet...

on IJ4 - well it's starting to smell like a losing battle

I haven't heard about the cancer, but that might have happened. I think he started to become more demanding and stand-offish after Empire Strikes Back. He always felt the Director of that film never listened to him and did his own thing.

Becca mentioned that Lucas has on some occasions mentioned that Empire was his least favorite film, considering he had very little to do with that one.

After that he sort took more interest in projects he produced. Some say he nearly Directed Return of the Jedi himself, or at least should have received some credit for it. I think it was during Jedi when he began to sell himself out.

Yeah, He stated that both the Live Action and cartoon shows were still far off.

Lucas sat behind Richard Marquand and had to approve everything he did while directing Jedi.

I just think this movie is so completely unnecessary. It doesn't make sense to do a fourth one, especially after 18 years. There's no more story; if you really take those movies for what they are, the character reaches his full development in the third movie, and there's no point to a fourth.

That said, I don't buy that Sallah really needs to be in the third movie. I liked him in the first one, but in the third one he was just kind of a joke. Of course, by that point, Spielberg was starting to forget how to make movies...

Couldn't agree more, Somewhere, Irvin Kershner did an interview where he made some interesting points that he would have done Return of the Jedi differently. But, I’m not sure where I saw it. It was an interesting read.

I think the only way this movie works is if it is the 1950-60's, and the jokes are about the culture clash between the world that we are used to seeing Indy occupy and the one that he is dealing with at that later date(note, I am not suggesting age-related jokes here).

That would make it interesting. Was any of this in the rejected script?

Did anything from the rejected script make its way into the current one?
