About that Red Wedding on Game of Thrones

About that Red Wedding on Game of Thrones

That was pretty amazing, and I was fully aware it was coming too. I red the Game of Thrones Wiki and knew the fate of everyone in that moment in the story. It wasn't a shock, but it still was a sad moment. As the scenes progressed, I knew it was going to happen and I got more and more uneasy.
Then the house band played the Lannister anthem. And, I knew it was coming up. I loved the way Catelyn reacts to the music. She knew something was wrong, but was unable to figure out what though.
I loved the moment where Robb simply gives up and looks to his mother and only gets a few words out. She looks in horror as her son dies in front of her. She then cuts throat of Frey's wife and she then gets cut herself.
And, they end it on credits being rolled without music. Very nice move there, producers.
-Lord Roose Bolton is an asshole: I knew he was planning on betraying the Starks from the get-go, but it still made me hate this guy.
-Arya Stark watches in horror as the Stark men are killed off and Robb's wolf is killed. Can home girl ever get a break?
-Because I love animals and I love dogs, I found that murdering of the wolf hard to watch. It was effective.
-Most of the actors on the show found it difficult to finish the scenes. Make sure to read the writer of the books reaction to the Red Wedding.

Well, he had at least one daughter that was hot...that was a nice payoff.

Catelyn hears the house DJ switch from Robb's playlist to a techno upbeat of the Lannister theme mashed up with the Hobbit theme song.  She knew something was wrong.

In the books, you knew something was coming because the POV chapters started getting really short as it flipped between Cat and Arya, which really built up the tension.

Did they play the Lannister theme in the book (from the wedding band) or was that something they added in the show?

No, they totally played the song too. That's how I knew which episode it was going to happen in when the preliminary title list came out.

Did you ever see the video where someone found Tyrion whistling it when he first arrived in King's Landing and walking into the small council meeting. They set that song up early. They made sure the audience had heard it more than once, and then they reminded them about the song again the episode before when Cersei was threatening Margaery with the story behind the song, so that when they heard it again in concert with Cat's reaction, they knew something was coming.

I didn't notice it the first time, but when I re-watched it I got it. I loved that bit with Cat's reactions. Things were set in motion and she really couldn't do anything about it.

I thought it was brilliant to use the music as a way of saying "f' You" to the Starks.

Well, when you think about what that song is about, it is very appropriate for what happened.

Yeah, that's true.
