Susan Boyle vs. Lou Reed

I’m not one of these Susan Boyle fans, but I am not a hater either. Lou Reed, from Velvet Underground and songwriter, isn’t exactly a fan of Susan Boyle because he refused to let her sing the song on America’s Got Talent.

From TMZ, ((Sources connected to the show tell TMZ ... producers needed permission from the songwriter, Lou Reed -- the former lead singer for The Velvet Underground and famous for "Walk on the Wild Side" -- but at the last minute they were informed that Reed refused permission because he isn't a Boyle fan.))

Supposedly, this is the cover Susan Boyle sung as practice before getting the news that she couldn't sing it. The song is called “Prefect Day”. I don't know what Lou Reed was smoking, but I actually like her version of the song. She has an amazing voice in that not so attractive shell of hers. She has some skills, something that is lacking in today's music.

Boyle learned of Reed's rejection and quickly left the show in tears and went back to the UK.

After the news broke about Boyle's departure, Reed's people quickly came out with their own statement. From New York Daily News, ((Reed's reps said Boyle's cover of "Perfect Day" simply wasn't cleared for the U.S. in time for "America's Got Talent," although Boyle was given the green light to perform the song in her native U.K.))

Simon Cowell had this to say about the apparent spin from Reed. From MTV, (("This is so petty, so pathetic," Cowell continued. "Loads of people have covered this song. This is a fantastic version. He's now saying, ‘If I'd have known, I'd have given permission’. Well Lou, if you're listening: Do we have permission to put the song on next week? Personal request from me." ))

I think Lou Reed is a bit out of touch and bitter, because Boyle is very good with the cover. So. He just hating for the sake of hating. However, I also think Boyle needs to have thicker skin. People are always going to try to knock you down despite your talent. You can't just go run away when things don't turn out your way.
