Overnight

Overnight

Say, do you want to watch as someone’s dream comes true and then has it all taken away in a matter of a short period of time? Sure you do. Overnight is the movie for you.

Overnight has nothing to do with Next Day delivery, but has everything to do with a guy named Troy Duffy. Troy was a bartender from Boston that received national attention for a script called The Boondock Saints. In the documentary, you will see Duffy act like a total asshole, well as watch Miramax completely screw over the movie production.

Despite Duffy’s claims otherwise, the documentary comes across fair to me. Duffy starts to believe the hype of his own fame, and he starts cussing out people that work in the music and movie business as if he’s already a big time director. On the other hand, Miramax and Harvey Weinstein do not come out it smelling like roses either. Weinstein takes upon himself to bury the film with a smile plastered on his face.

Duffy completely loses it on a few occasions, especially around his band mates. The Brood, Duffy’s band, also had a tie-in with the Boondock Saints and it went to crap as well. The movie shows the downward fall between Duffy and his band mates.

The movie is raw with its portray of a dream coming true and then becoming sour. I personally would have dug a little deeper into the Weinstein connection. There was obviously more going with Harvey than even the movie showed. That’s the only weakness I felt was present with the movie.

Overnight is a very compelling documentary that has a bittersweet ending that shows you that not all dreams come true. (But, Duffy has gone on to make Boondock Saints II)
