Spiderman 3 (Part 1 of 3)

Spiderman 3 (Part 1 of 3)

Too much of a good thing isn’t good for you. That’s what’s happened to Spiderman III. I never thought I’d say this, but there’s too much story. As Yvonne has mentioned in her post about S3, there are two great movies jammed into one okay film. While not a bad film, there’s just too much stuff going on that many elements just get short changed. The story never gives us enough of any of the plot threads floating around. You can tell there’s been considerable footage cut from the film.

Then, the movie spends too much time on the things I care nothing for, such as Mary Jane. MJ came across as a good character in the first two movies, but here she’s reverted back to Bring it On territory. MJ acts too much like that clingy girlfriend you’re forced to dump because she wines too much. At the end of Spiderman II, she’s understanding and cheers Peter Parker on, but she’s too selfish for anyone to care for her in part 3. This plotline should have been cut down.

I’ll come out and say that I liked the Dark Peter (emo) Parker. I enjoyed seeing Tobey Maguire acting like a total asshole, even going as far as permanently scaring someone for life. Again, most of the Venom story deserved it’s own movie. BTW, the black suit is very nice. Even the way he swings through the buildings is completely different, and it looks more aggressive.

Thomas Haden Church’s performance was amazing, especially toward the very end of the film. When he becomes Sandman, it’s probably one of the best scenes in the film. This was probably one of the few times Chris Young’s score worked beautifully with the amazing FX. Once again, Church doesn’t get much development other than roaming the streets and robbing banks. That is until the end, Church has one of the most touching moments in the film where he and Spiderman confront each other. This is the one of the reasons to watch the movie.

Spiderman fighting the Mummy. (?)

I actually liked the new technology that the 'New Goblin' uses in this movie.

The dark Spiderman picture you put up doesn't do it justice, he looks a big scrawny. I think i might go watch it this weekend since there is nothing else on

I just can't help but feel that both Thomas Haden Church and Topher Grace were both cheated of the screen time they deserved in favour of some pretty pointless scenes (Gwen Stacy etc.)

I mean, when you think about it, even Doc Ock got more character development in S2. Ah well.

Blayde: You're right, part of that has to do with the Spiderman marketing folks playing around with photo-shop. They have same pictures with him in the black suit and with the normal suit. They did a cheap paint job (BTW, this will actually be a subplot in the film with photoshop. )

I bet it's not ever Toby or his stunt double in that suit.

Yvonne: Yeah, what was the point of her character in this story, when just a random girl could play that part, then again she could play a bigger part in part 4.

I think this should have been Church's movie, and they should have merely introduced the Black suit in this movie...paid it off with part 4
