I may have watched like two episodes of the Fat Albert from the old TV show. I never really got into the damn show for real. Being a young black kid (at the time), I still didn’t identify with it. I kind of remember Fat Albert yelling “Hey, hey, hey.”
Man, there isn’t much to say about Fat Albert the movie. I remember reading about Forest Whitaker being slated to direct, but he left the project soon after. It was something about not getting along with Bill Cosby. The two of them didn’t see eye to eye on the tone of the project. Bill Cosby has been known to stick his nose into things a little bit too much.
Kenan Thompson plays the star Fat Albert in the movie. Overall, he did a fairly good job with the script he received, but for some reason I feel this is Good Burger 2. Dania Ramirez is the reason to watch this movie anyway. I started ignoring everything else on the screen and watched her.
There is some awfulness with CGI and a really bad dance number involving Fat Albert and the boyz. The plot is kid friendly and very simply. Fat Albert jumps out of a TV screen and helps a girl find her way in life, end of story.
The part of that works only has very little screen time. The longer the Cartoon characters stay in the real world the more they begin to fade. Their bright colors start to turn pale and they start getting weaker. This is the cool part though; the more they stay out in the real world, they more they move away from their Cartoon Character personalities. Mush Mouth starts to speak normal and Dumb Donald becomes smart, and actually has a face! This stuff was done very good, but there should have been more of this stuff and less of the really bad dialogue and poor CGI.
Notes on the movie
~Bill Cosby makes an appearance looking sleepy. Somebody give Bill some coffee!
~The Fat Albert cartoon show that appears in the movie looks like a updated version on the old show. It has a closer feel to Roger Rabbit.
~If there is one good thing about this movie, it’s Dania Ramirez. This woman is so cute and sexy.
