41. The Super Star-destroyer gets owned: I love how this big ass ship starts to take some serious hits and one tiny fighter breaks through the shields, crashing into the bridge. This causes the ship to take a nosedive into the freaking Death Star. Great explosion, and plus John Williams brings back the Death Star Theme (Ep IV) for the destruction of the Super Star-destroyer.
42. The Explosion from the inside of the Death StarT: The FX for the entire scene is amazing look into the FX of the 80. I also like that it took two fighters to blow up the reactor.
43. The race to the outside with Lando: I love when the Falcon races away from the Death Star explosion.
44. Luke Chopping Vader’s hand off and realizing he’s becoming his father: This was one of those moments when after you’ve watched the rest of the SW films, you will get a bigger meaning out of this scene.
45. Vader throwing The Emperor over the rail: This is just a powerful moment. Again, this has more meaning if you believe the Emperor is Vader’s father.
46. The Vader theme being play during Vader’s death scene: Listen to the cue when Vader is dying in Luke’s arms. Usually, we hear this theme being played very loud and strong throughout the series. Here, it is played with a sad and remorseful theme. This is truly a great Williams moment.
47. The new improved Death Star Explosion: They added the Praxis shockwave from the Special Edition of Ep IV, but changed the color of the actual explosion. The explosion has more detail the first movie.
48. The Burning of Vader’s body: Again, now that we’ve seen all six episodes, we can see that Ankin’s dark side (Vader) was born with his body being engulfed flames and his life ends with his body being burned, but this time he’s redeemed himself. The pan toward the sky was a wonderful touch too. Nicely done, Lucas.
49. Updated galaxy wide celebration from the Special Edition and DVD versions: We get to see the celebration throughout the galaxy and see that many people around the Empire watched the major battle. It gives the entire conflict a bigger meaning, plus it fits in the rest of the films. It makes sense now.
50. The added New Age song at the end: Thank the force Lucas replaced that stupid Ewok song with something else. Sure it doesn’t fit with the tone of the series, but anything is better than that shitty song the Ewoks sung in the original.
Well, those are 50 things I enjoyed about Return of the Jedi. Even though I still don’t like those damn Ewoks and the light nature of the storyline, there are many things I’ve come to enjoy about the film and how it fits into the entire structure of the six films. The movie will always live in the shadow of the superior Empire Strikes Back, but it still has it merits.
