Taken from the site above,
((Those watching Super Bowl commercials who were puzzled by Shaquille O’Neal’s overreaction to the proposition of a “fist kiss” may now find solace in ESPN’s yanking of the advertisement.
In the ad, Mike Breen and Shaq are alone, together, on a sofa when Breen offered the ubiquitous greeting and celebratory gesture, but lamely called it a “fist kiss.” This fuzzy phrase seemed to cause Shaq a great deal of consternation, and he reacted by pulling as far away from Breen as possible. ))
Somebody help me understand how this is supposed to be offensive to gay people?
This is an ad about two straight guys interacting and one guy incorrectly calls a fit bump a fist kiss. Shaq doesn't like it and gets all Shaq-fu on his ass, actually he doesn't, and positions himself further away from the guy.
Don't take my word for it, watch the video
Poor, Shaq-fu
Yeah, ESPN has pulled the ad due to pressure from gay groups. This is a real shame for Shaq because this ad had some of the best acting he’s done in years, which includes Steel and Good Burger. For all we know, this ad could have re-launched his acting career…maybe not.
Call me old fashion, but I'd look at someone strange if they offered me a “Fist Kiss” too. I wouldn't have cared if they were gay or straight.
Calling this ad Homophobic is a bit much. Besides, aren't there other issues gay rights advocates should be worried about other than stupid Shaq ads? Like say the banning of gay marriage, and so on. Is it because this issue is much easier to get a higher profile for than reversing the gay marriage act?
I support many rights issues, but finding an anti-gay subtext in a goofy ad is a bit of reach for even me. How about deal you with violence against gay people or gay marriage instead going after anything you feel is remotely offense to you?
