Shenmue, Sega Saturn Version

Shenmue was a breathtaking game that was released toward the end of the Dreamcast’s short life. It had amazing graphics and a nearly life-like world. It was a world where you could touch anything, do anything. It had a compelling score and respectable voice acting (Not top-notch acting like MGS and GTA series). The story was fair, if a little clunky.

What some people don’t know about the game is that it was slated for the Sega Saturn. And surprisingly, it was nearly completed. It went under the name Virtua Fighter RPG because it was suppose to be a spin off of that series. Another kicker was that the Saturn version had Shenmue 1 and 2 elements in the game, unlike the Dreamcast version.

You will notice that quality of the Saturn Version was very nice for the time, and could have rivaled the Playstation. Too bad it wasn’t released on the Saturn, it could have helped keep Sega out of the hole, and proven that the Saturn could handle 3D graphics well. Oh, well…
