Spike Lee (Some Thoughts)

Spike Lee

Spike Lee used to be an extremely skilled director back when he was younger. He wrote and directed some incredibly important movies for black people in the 90s. When Hollywood only seem place young black actors in negative roles such as drug dealers, pimps and thugs, he would cast these same actors in roles opposite from the usual stereotypes. The stars that came out of his movies have become some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Laurence Fishburne, Denzel Washington, Wesley Snipes, Samuel L. Jackson, and Halle Berry, have all starred in some of his early movies.

Each movie was about something, and not about simply entertaining the masses. However, lately he seems to have fallen off the horse with his latest group of films. It’s as if he doesn’t care any longer, which I think is sad because he has so much talent. A waste of talent is one of the worst things to see in life.

His best movies

School Daze, Do the Right Thing, Mo' Better Blues, Jungle Fever, Malcolm X, Get on the Bus
