Killers will not be screened for “critics”

This is probably the world's worst poster. Ashton Kutcher looks like a complete tool and Katherine Heigl looks like a ghost. What happened to her curves?

Killers will not be screened for “critics”

Over at Yahoo.com, they're reporting that the new Katherine Heigl/Ashton Kutcher movie “Kilers” will not be screened for critics before the movie is opened. When studios like Lionsgate shun critics from viewing the movie, it is a likely indication that they are aware that they have a steaming turd on their hands, and want to keep it quiet before the release. Bad word of mouth from critics might hurt the opening totals, in their eyes.

The best part about this story is the reason the Lionsgate gives for not screening the movie. It is best PR spin move ever stated. (("We want to capitalize on the revolution in social media by letting audiences and critics define this film concurrently," Lionsgate said in a statement late Wednesday. "In today's socially connected marketplace, we all have the ability to share feedback instantly around the world. In keeping with this spirit, Lionsgate and the filmmakers want to give the opportunity to moviegoing audiences and critics alike to see `Killers' simultaneously, and share their thoughts in the medium of their choosing. We felt that this sense of immediacy could be a real asset in the marketing of `Killers.'"))

Uh, yeah. Let’s throw a bunch of words at them and try to cover our shit up with confusion. The statement was probably written and rewritten over and over and analyzed from everyone in order to spin the right positive words.

Note the trendy words “Social” and “Revolution”. Regardless what they say, if the movie is a turd, people will be “simultaneously” ripping the film apart from Twitter to Facebook.

The truth is probably that they knew the movie was bad once the test screenings scores came in and quickly shut the critics out just to get a step into getting their money back. Plus, it should be already assumed that the movie is going to suck when you attach a talent-less douche like Ashton Kutcher.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
