~Yo, check out the new Speed Racer trailer: I'm still not sure this movie is going to work. Keep in mind that The Wachowski Brothers (and sister?) are in charge of this movie. This could be a good thing or a bad thing.

~Robert Hawkins is yet another outsider that snapped and killed a bunch of people: Why in the hell did he do this?

~Did you know there are currently only three space shuttles in service at the moment. They are Discovery, Atlantis, and Endeavor. It appears these shuttles will be retired in 2010.

Here's one of the replacement programs for the out of date space shuttle program. Note: This program seems so retro. I still think a Galaxy Class starship is a better program.

~How do you impress a chick on the first date? Roll up with the A-Team Limo. I'm still waiting for the KITT limo with that red light in the front. I'd hire Mr. T too for the first date. He would say cool things like, “Jump foo, or I pity the foo.”

~I received an A+ in one of my classes. I don't think I have ever achieved that in my entire life. I am very pleased.

Random Thoughts

~Dave Chappelle is a badass. He jokes around with the Paparazzi while they snap his pictures.

~One of the funniest things I heard about me was from a woman at work. I asked her to fix me up with one of her hot friends.

She said, “You have to be nice to them.”

I shook my head. “I’m a mean guy?”

“Yes, sometimes,” she answered.

~Here’s the podcast of the whole Gamespot incident. None of the writers knew he got fired. The writers are pissed.

~Holy Crap, this GTA IV trailer is amazing. I wonder how many former main characters from the other GTA games will make appearances.

~I went to Wendy’s yesterday. Right at the counter, there was a young lady with bright red flowing hair. She took my order, and I looked at the logo of the Wendy’s girl above her head. The girl at the counter looked just like the depiction of Wendy, except without the pigtails.

~I have to ask; where are these sex tapes coming from? Is there a Sex Tape Troll with bags fun of tapes? I mean everyone seems to have one. Now this girl named Jessica Sierra has had a sex tape surface. (not safe for work). I’m thinking this is a way to boost waning popularity of these reality stars. You know we’ve hit rock bottom when Chyna, from the WWF, has a tape out.

~Speaking of Chyna, she attempts to kiss some random dude hanging around her. He moves away. He turns his head when she leans in closer to kiss him. The confused look on her face is priceless. She has this ‘I can’t believe I’m being rejected. I’m Chyna’ look. Maybe it was alcohol smell from her mouth or the botox lips.

Steven Seagal’s energy drink (take two)

Steven: You will buy my energy drink and like it too

Steven Seagal’s energy drink

As I have posted before, I tried this shitty drink back in the day. It was one of the worst drinks I have ever tasted. It was one of the worst things I ever tasted. Hey, it was only a dollar.

Anyway, here are some reactions to other people trying this shitty product. All their reactions are pretty much the same.

Steven Seagal Energy Drink taste test

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pinfst2Chp8

Someone else agrees that this energy taste like crap. I like the smells like cherry crap and burnt tires comment.

This guy nearly throws it back up after he finishes it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-s6NdqcgFE&feature=related

Steven Seagal, you suck. It’s too much power in one can for anyone to try.

These guys attempt to harness the power of Sir Steven through his drink…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNgNFxWAgRc&feature=related

Everyone’s reaction is the same. The drink is so bad that his eyes begin to water.

Here’s a direct quote from one of the people from that film.

((It tasted like they dipped a ferret in old grape juice then juiced the ferret. You know that musk a ferret has? Yeah mix that with grape and you have the taste.))

Two guys try it together at the same time.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8j9DR0V5x0&feature=related

“Dude, that is the worst energy drink alive.” Note: these two lost a Madden game and were forced to down this horrid energy drink.

When going Out For Justice, make sure to go Above the Law when walking On Deadly Ground and make sure to check for Exit Wounds.

Gamespot makes a statement

More about that Jeff Gerstmann thing

http://blog.wired.com/games/2007/12/gamespot-explai.html

Ever since MC posted in his blog about this guy’s firing, I grown more and more pissed about how this guy was treated. The video review is rather tame and not that negative.

Here’s what Gamespot had to say about the incident;

((Though GameSpot confirms that Eidos did express displeasure over Gertsmann's review of Kane & Lynch, the company flatly denies it had any bearing on Gerstmann's departure. Gerstmann was let go as a result of an "internal review process" conducted by his managers.))

Yeah, that clears it up…not. This still stinks of Gamespot giving in to Eidos’ complaints.

BTW, I heard that Eidos is scared crap-less with the bad press it is getting over this whole incident. That’s what they get.

Here's a former Gamespot employee ripping into some of the groups involved in this story

I love his ripping into some of the ‘Nancy Drew groups and the Nintendo nerds’. I still can’t believe these guys can’t get over the 8.8 rating he gave that Zelda game. Most game developers would love to get an 8.8. Relax Zelda fanboys.

Thoughts on the Song of the South (Follow up on The Samurai Frog's post) Part 2 of 2

Does that mean we should ban the film from being released in the US? Nope, I agree with the Samarui Frog on this. It should be released on DVD and Blue Ray. Like he’s stated, it’s not even close to being as bad as Birth of a Nation.

Here’s why;

1. Let people decide if this is a film worth value for themselves.

2. Make sure to include commentary by people that support this film and those that don’t.

3. Bonus material with the pros and cons of the film. Making of videos and deleted storyboards.

Keep in mind that the racism here in this film isn’t that bad. Watch Soul Plane or Birth of a Nation for that. I just think Disney is being chicken shit because they won’t release this movie here in the US, but pretty much everyone outside North American can get their hands on a copy in some way. Or at least that was what I've read.

Iron Man and Hulk crossover

Iron Man and Hulk crossover in their movies?

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/34962

I really like this concept that Marvel is creating with its various movies. It is cool that Nick Fury (Sam Jackson) will show up in Iron Man. It looks like they actually got the person that the Ultimate Nick Fury is model after to play the role. Samuel L. Jackson gave them permission to use his likeness, probably because he’s a comic book fan. He’s certainly a better choice than David Hasselhoff.

Anyway, I hope this crossover thing is true. We could see a movie Avengers after all this. Justice League makers take note. DC comics on the other hand doesn’t seem interested in connected their movie continuities. What is wrong with DC?

Hot Rod

Hot Rod

To put it bluntly, the movie is lame and boring. It’s not a bad movie; it’s just not that funny either. Hot Rod is about a kid that dreams of becoming the greatest stuntman in the world. His stepfather begins to have heart problems, so it is up to Adam Samberg’s character to get enough money to help him out. We see all the misadventures with him and his crew as they get ready for one major stunt.

The movie attempts to behave in a Napoleon Dynamite style and manner, but it doesn’t have a good script to back it up. The movie just plops along aimlessly from one sad bit to another without much compelling comedic elements to keep your attention. It feels like they were making it up as they were going along.

Samberg isn’t that funny, and most of the best bits were shown in the trailer. (Except for one funny scene involving a riot.) Yet, I have to give him credit for trying to make low budget film. There were a few bits here and there that gave me a chuckle or two. However, there are too many attempts at Napoleon Dynamite to call anything in this film original.

Like I said, it is not a great or good movie, but so-so. If you have money to burn, rent it. Otherwise, avoid this film.

Grade: C-

The movie is set in the present, but certain things make you feel like the movie set in the late 70s early 80s. Superbad had that same feel.

Uh-oh

Uh-oh

This isn’t good

It’s not everyday when you see something that indirectly involves you. If you remember, I got a letter from someone back in the day about this incident. Luckily, no one has contacted me about this. They could very well cause problems for me at work.

I’m being very vague about this…

I don’t think they really have a case here, but I still feel bad for their loss.

I’ll have more to say after all this blows over.

Thoughts on the Song of the South (Follow up on The Samurai Frog's post) Part 1 of 2

Song of the South (A follow up to the Samurai Frog’s Essay on the movie)

http://samuraifrog.blogspot.com/2007/12/everything-is-satisfactual-notes-on.html

I had to write a five page paper on The Birth of the Nation. So with that mindset, I was going to write post on the controversial Disney movie Song of the South. However, the Samurai Frog wrote a great post on the subject, which is a far better post than I could ever come up with. So read his post and watch the clips and then come back here to read my thoughts on the subject matter.

I agree that the movie has some artistic value. The animation is breathtaking and life-like, but the live action is somewhat racist. This is set during the post Civil War South. Terrorists groups like the KKK ran through back community and killing people left and right. Fear drove many blacks toward the North to find better jobs and to move away from the KKK. However, Remus doesn’t seem to care about this with his bright eyed grin and singing.

Here we see an Uncle Remus smile big and wide like the old racist comedic routines from the black face characters from old movies. As a black man myself, I cringe every time I see Remus grin with those big eyes. I think the film ends up being racist, but I don’t think they intended for the film to be that way. The grinning and singing older black man that performs for the white children just comes across as bad in today’s light.

Then there is broken English that many of the ‘black’ characters speak in. “That I is.” Besides Uncle Remus, Br'er Rabbit, Br'er Bear, and Br'er Fox used this embarrassing southern slave dialect, in which they all come across as being ignorant. (Side note: James Baskett did the voice of the Fox.) (I spend a lot of time in Memphis because of family, and I do run into some people that talk this way even today. “That I is.”)

Tetris

Tetris review

http://youtube.com/watch?v=helswqzTlX4

I love this game. As I’ve stated before, I got a cell phone, and the only thing I use it for is Tetris.

Then there was the cheap knock off game Dr. Mario. I hate this game.

I also remember Sega swirls and I liked this knock off though

A walking corpse and an out of touch 'reporter'. The expression on Imus' face is priceless. Only old age can give you that kind of expression. (I'm not looking forward to getting that old)

Random Bits

~I keep tripping over crap every time I wear these boots. They’re dress boots and I like them, but I tend to be shaky when wearing them. Is this like when the ladies wear the high hills?

~Don Imus is back on the air. Hopefully, that as of a producer is still out of a job, the person who egged him on. Be happy Imus fans, you have your mumbling old fart back on the air to bore you with tears. Enjoy.

~I guess Montel Williams didn’t really want to blow up a teenage intern student. When Montel isn’t yelling at high school students, he’s making apologies for threatening to ‘blow people up’. Does he have powers beyond a normal Jedi?

What the hell does this statement mean?

I'm a big star, and I can look you up, find where you live and blow you up!"

BTW, Montel, smooth move bringing your body guard along when you were making threats. It’s very P-Diddy of you.

~Useless info, here is a google map of U of L my current school.

Jeff Gerstmann vs. Gamespot? (a follow up on a MC post)

I have no idea what he is doing in this picture, but he should stop pointing that thing at me...

Make sure to head over to MC's blog and read his post about Gamespot firing Jeff Gerstmann. Here's what happened, Gerstmann wrote and taped a review for the game Kane and Lynch. The review wasn't exactly positive. Well, word has it that Eidos pressured Gamespot to fire Gerstmann over his bad review. While not all the facts lean toward that connection, the lack of statements by Gerstmann, Eidos, and Gamespot just makes it seem true.

I am no fan of Gerstmann, but I hope this isn't the case behind his sacking. Remember, this has been happening in the movie sector too. A certain negative video review about a FOX movie was removed from YouTube recently by FOX, until it was reinstated.

People around the Internet are pissed off about this sacking. However, people should know that this type of thing has been going on for years. Nintendo and EA have threatened countless times, back in the day, to removing ads from magazines because of negative reviews. But, firing a reviewer over his opinion probably is far worse of an offense.

Some people have claimed that there was more to his firing than Eidos. I'm not sold on that theory. The fact no one is really talking about it is bothersome.

There is more information out there out this too.

From the Kotaku site

((Gerstmann has been no stranger to controversial reviews, as his scores of 10 for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and 8.8 for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess had sensitive internet users up in arms. It's now possible that many bitter fanboys may have had their wishes for his firing granted. ))

You know, I take that back about not being a fan of his. I love the fact he pissed off the Zelda fanboys with his Zelda review.

I watched his video review and I have to agree with him. Why play a game with some unlikeable characters? Yes, the GTA series has some criminals as the main stars, but you want them to make it, because they are likable anti-heroes. Does every character have to say the words 'F' you' the whole time? Not even GTA does that.

Let it go, Eidos. It's not like you haven't received negative reviews before. What about all those shitty Tomb Raider games?

Side Note

Here's a flip side of the whole gaming journalism angle from Tommy Tallarico. I have to agree with Mr. Tallarico here. There's too much negative fanboyism in gaming now, especially in the gaming press.

More about Moore (Ron Moore that is)

You have to love his outdoorsmen look he’s been sporting for years. Like an angry truck driver or woodsmen.

On his new blog, Ron Moore of BSG has some cool memories of his time at the Hart Building, working on Star Trek TNG.

I think Ron Moore’s story about spying into Rick Berman’s office was pretty funny and his description of his former office was neat.

I'd like to read more about his time at Trek.
