Zack and Miri Make a Porno Surprisingly, this Kevin Smith movie is entertaining, charming, and nasty at the same time. The movie is a strong R-rated movie with bodily fluids and dirty jokes, but it is also a date movie and a nod to the porn industry. As I watched this movie, I started to notice most of the actors were from the Judd Apatow camp with a few crossovers from Smith’s Jersey Universe. Plus, the movie does feel like an Apatow movie with a lot of reflective Kevin Smith dialogue thrown in. One character, Gerry Bednob , is playing nearly the same character he played in 40-Year Old Virgin . I’m sure put this character in the movie as a tip to the hat to 40-Year Old Virgin . I guess the other guy from 40-Year ( Shelley Malil ) couldn’t make it into the movie because he attempted to kill his girlfriend. Street Kings Damn you, Keanu! Keanu Reeves pretty much ruins this movie all by himself. Reeves is unconvincing as a corrupt detective. For some reason, Reeves is unable to get rid of his Ted Logan voice from the Bill and Ted movies and it just becomes laughable. Reeves is awful really awful. The rest of the cast ranges from bad to fair. Forest Whitaker is pretty good but he’s just playing a clone version of his character in The Shield . Hugh Laurie , uh the guy that plays Dr. Gregory House from the show House , plays the exact character from his show with just a different name. I like both Jay Mohr and Cedric the Entertainer , but they are annoying in this movie. Did I mention that guy from Prison Break is also in the movie ( Amaury Nolasco )? The Watchmen has a few problems -The Running Time: Okay, I could sit through the Lord of the Rings movies with no problem, but I felt they could have easily cut out ten extra minutes from Watchmen. There are a few points that seemed to drag on. You can easily reinstate all the scenes in the DVD version. -The Score was Terrible: With something this grand, you need an score that captures this world. Composer Tyler Bates ’ score is not only bland, but doesn’t add anything to the emotional reactions on screen. Can’t Snyder get pass these bland MTV composers and use better scoring techniques. - Pat Buchanan and Richard Nixon makeup: The Nixon makeup was bad and I wouldn’t have even recognized Buchanan unless they mentioned his name. Otherwise, the makeup is fine for the rest of the characters.
