Starfire's daughter is not Starfire...no shit

  

Meet Starfire’s daughter.  She seems angry.  Why?   

 

I am all for representations and want more different types of books, but not this.  Here is the reason.  This is a self-insert character.  the character of Mandy Koriand'r is clearly just Mariko Tamaki.   She basically threw herself into the work.  She Wesley Crusher-ed her work.  Wesley Crusher was a self-insert character for Gene Roddenberry.  We saw how that worked out.   

 

Why aren’t there any people that look like me in the DC universe?  Well, how about NOT exactly you.  Then again, it is the YA market and it isn’t part of the main DC universe.   I want diversity but just make it entertaining too.  Putting a version of yourself isn't a great path.  I am willing to give this book a chance.
