Due to multiple cuts of the film, Matt Smith was deleted completely from the final cut. Smith appeared to have a major role in the film, but Disney quietly tucked him away after the reshoots. This is probably the reason it took so long for them to even bring a teaser trailer out. Rumors have it that Smith was supposed to be a major villain, but Disney replaced him with Palpatine. I also heard rumors that Smith was supposed to play a younger version of Paps.
There were reports of Smith being cast in the movie from all the way back in August of 2018. They probably should have stuck with the Lucas cut. How does it feel to work on a set of a movie for months only to have your role completely cut from the movie?
We may never see the other two versions of the movie.
