Richard Belzer died yesterday, at 78, from an unknown condition.
Since the 90s, I’ve always remembered seeing Richard Belzer around in some form. Belzer had a strange, snarky type of humor. He was the better version of Dennis Miller. And, Belzer played one of the most iconic characters on TV, Detective Munch.
The character of Munch was around for 23 years. One of my favorite shows he on was Homicide: Life on the Streets, and his character would move to Law and Order SVU. His character would show up in The Wire and The X-Files. Munch was in various comic TV shows then and even appeared in a comic book by Marvel. I am not making this up. Heck, he showed up on Sesame Street! I am surprised he didn’t show up in Star Trek.
Belzer was a fave of mine and will be missed.
