Willy's Wonderland and Five Nights at Freddy's

You know there is something familiar about this concept.  Someone from work mentioned this movie because I talked about Nic Cage.  I saw the trailer and couldn’t believe how much it has in common with the game series Five Nights at Freddy's.  After looking into it, this movie isn’t an adaptation or remake of FNAF.  That could cause some problems...legal problems.  Willy’s and Freddy’s, are you serious?  The twist is that the “hero” kicks the robotic puppets’ asses.

If you lived in Louisville, you had Chuck E. Cheese and ShowBiz Pizza in other places.  Chuck Cheese bought the remaining Show Biz locations.  Both companies had creepy robotic singing animals.  As a child, I was always scared of these soul-less monsters singing creepy songs as your parents ate shitty pizza.  The only reason to go to Chuck E. Cheese was to play the arcade videogames.  I remember spending hours playing Double Dragon.

It does seem odd that these movies are coming out now grant the buzz for these types of movies has gone down.

Daft Punk - Epilogue

The end of Daft Punk

Daft Punk came along during an amazing time in music in the 90s.   Even though they started in Paris, they changed modern US music by throwing us back funk of the 70s.  Like wrestling, they took their gimmick on and off-screen.  You have to respect that.  And, their music is groovy and I still play some of their best tracks in my car.  They became even bigger during the 2000s when many 90s acts started to fade.  They even collab with other famous artists such as The Weekend and Pharrell Williams.

Well, it came as a surprise when I heard Daft Punk broke up this week.  Being the cool MF’ers they are, they announce it with a strange short film on their YouTube page.

Forgotten Happy Gilmore/Billy Madison thing

I re-watched the Sandler movie Happy Gilmore on TV.  I still can’t believe how good the movie is and that Sandler really tried to be funny in his early movies.  Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore were his early movies and the name of his studio.  I noticed some interesting connections between the two movies.

In Happy Gilmore, Happy is breaking up with his long-term girlfriend.  As she leaves the apartment, Happy talks about her career.  It turns out she is an elementary teacher.  Hmm, didn’t Sandler’s character in Billy Madison also date an elementary teacher?  Was this character supposed to be played by Bridgette Wilson?  I know that Sandler wanted to make Happy and Billy different characters but it is clearly a reference to Sandler’s earlier movie.

Here's the scene

I am guessing he didn’t want to take the character of Billy in the Happy Gilmore direction.  I never noticed that reference

BTW, the scene leads to one of the best jokes in the movie.  Where he bangs the old Asian woman when she pops up in his room.  Very funny.

Wayne's World says thanks. 89,151 times. | Eat Local | Uber Eats

That UberEats Wayne’s World commercial was just the tip of the iceberg.  I am really digging into the marketing of the service via its meme-friendly concepts.  I liked the Picard/Skywalker ones and then UberEats dug up the Wayne’s World concept and made it fun again.

They brought back Mike Myers and Dana Carvey to reprise their roles.  Given the way things sort of ended coldly between Myers and Carvey, it is nice to see them put aside their differences.  The basic joke is a callback to the product placement joke from the first movie.

Now, here is where things get stranger.  UberEats decided to thank all of the restaurants under its service.  Here’s the kicker, Wanye and Garth sit there watching the names as they scroll for about 2 and a half hours.  There are tons of things that happen during “this movie”.  And, Alice Cooper shows up twice.  Cooper is great.

Anita Sarkeesian Vs. Ninja: Trying to act like it is 2014.

Every few months, Anita Sarkeesian attempts to knock down a hornet's nest.  This time it is Ninja.  I really find it amusing because Ninja is just a blue-haired winy little bitch with millions of dollars.   I guess she decided to target Ninja because he has a large following and his money.

I was kind of hoping people would simply forget about her again in a few months and she would fade back into nothing again.  Every time she tries to come up with a hot take, it feels calculated.  She goes after the hottest things in pop culture in order to get the crazier fans to attack her.  In return, she can become a victim and receive attention over again.  The problem is that that 2014 trend doesn’t work anymore.  People will respond to her bad takes and point out the issues and move on.

Look, I find it desperate because her prime was 2013-2017.  The Internet and pop culture has changed and her old tricks simply aren’t going to work anymore.  When you look at her views, she is still hovering around 1.3K views.  That number is fine for someone like me, but she was pulling 3-1 million seven years ago.  So, I can see why she would punch upward toward Ninja.  The problem is she just not going to get the same negative response she was hoping for like in 2014.

Anyway, she will make another dumb statement, people will get outraged, and the Internet will move on.  Would Anita of 2013 be proud of 2021 Anita (fighter of lame blue-haired Twitch streamers and boob armor)?  It is kind of sad really.

Side Note:  What happened to that “online helpline company” she backed?  I mean it is still around, but no one is talking about it.  Not even Anita seems that interested in it anymore.  Odd.
