Baby Doll
profile
This is a good
profile piece for the often forgotten Batman character. I like the
way the character switches from her TV character voice to her “adult”
voice. She is clearly a twisted take on Gary Coleman. She is also
an original villain created for the Batman Animated Series. Her
design is very Tiny Toons-ish. This is probably a nod to Bruce Timm
working on that show before starting up Batman TAS.
She made two
appearances on the show. Her second appearance isn't as touching as
her first one. She teams up with Killer Croc in the second episode.
And, it gets a little creepy when we discover there is a relationship
between the two of them. The writers only hint at it, but it is
there.
One of the best
moments in her first appearance has to be when she encounters a fake
adult mirror of herself and totally loses it. She then hugs Batman
and Batman gently places his hand on her head to comfort her. She
will forever have a childhood, while Batman will never have one.
The best moment
is when she says, “I didn't mean to.” She also says it her adult
voice.
Here's the scene
I'm talking about. It is a sad moment.
I personally
think the adult image in the mirror was never there, but was only in
her mind.

I love the fact that the voice actresses involved were Alison La Placa and then Laraine Newman.
Have those two actresses worked together before?
