George Lucas: special edition

Lucas: “You know, someday we will own Hollywood.”

Spielberg: “Yeah, but at what cost?”

Lord of the rings, Lucas style

What would happen if George Lucas decided to make Lord of the Rings? Well, this video answers that question. These people spoof all the gushing 'making of' videos that Lucas has released on DVD. The cartoon addresses many of the problems with the George Lucas of today. It is very funny, and I love how harsh they come down on poor George. (Screw Jar-Jar)

You see, Lucas lost his way during Return of the Jedi. He was more worried about making a product instead of a good story, so we got Ewoks instead of Wookies. While I like the special editions of Star Wars, some fans don't. And, that was the final straw for many of them.

Lucas at some point stopped being the young rebel that hated the business-like nature of Hollywood. He was a daring director that beat the odds and got his vision across the screen. For the most part, he got to direct SW his way. Millions of people across the world connected with his story. Yet, something went wrong after Empire Strikes Back. At some point, he moved away from Hollywood and other people, becoming detached from human contact.

He forgot about live locations and props, about characters and logical storytelling. He stopped taking suggestions and surrounded himself with 'yes' men. He became the very thing he loathed in his younger age. Lucas has to take a long look at his recent work and his old stuff, and see what he has lost.

Hey, George, we can CGI the gray out of your hair and add Ewoks and Jar-Jar.

Young men chase dreams. Old men chase profits.

Don't be surprised if, in another 10-15 years, he's wearing tissue boxes on his feet, never clipping his toe or finger nails, and saving his urine in glass jars all around the house.

He's a loon and his work is no longer relevant.

One of the best quotes I’ve read, DB.

Lucas wasn’t always a loon, though. Plus, he had people around him that would say, “Now, George that’s a crazy idea.”

He got too full of himself and too protective of his own universe.
