Men in Black 3 (Review Part 2 of 2)

Image
MIB 3 Some of the stronger elements from MIB3 are the concepts of time travel and alt-timelines.  I am really surprised the movie actually digs into these concepts given that it is a summer movie.  Michael Stuhlbarg plays an alien that can witness various and different timelines and calculates the varying factors that can change the timeline.  I found this character very interesting to watch because he’s unstable, because he views all the different versions of history.  So, his character is a little…off. There is a great moment in the movie where Griffin shows J and K a baseball game using his timeline viewing powers. It is a very cool moment.  He also discusses how the game could change given certain small elements in the past were changed.  It is an interesting part of the movie that you don’t see much of in summer movies.  This goes back to the theme of smaller elements having impacts into larger in the first movie.  Somewhere, all of t...

Paul

Image
Paul Paul is a mixed bag.  The movie does celebrate fanboy history.  And, I really liked the opening Comic Con stuff.  With the alien story, it is also a road movie. However, some of the action scenes and actors in the story subtract from the overall experience.  There is some good and bad about this movie.  And, the sci-fi references are cute, but the movie is missing a lot of laughs.  Two nerds from the UK encounter a real alien in the US.   They take him in and they go cross-country to help the alien get home.  It is a simple premise and it actually works for the most part.  It is some of the smaller parts of the story that don’t work.  I found the two goofy agents working with Jason Bateman to be more annoying than funny.  However, the “heel/face” turn with the three agents was actually interesting.  Bateman is a mixed bag.  Some of his scenes are rather funny, but most of the time Bateman looks a...

Sexism and ASUS

Image
Sexism and ASUS Are we getting just a little sensitive about things now? First people were trying to make a big deal out of Will Smith's little slap, and now this. From Huffington Post , (( ASUS' post, which smacks of sexism, shows a photo, taken from behind, of a shapely woman displaying ASUS' Transformer AIO tablet to a crowd of men and encourages followers to check out the woman's "pretty nice" looking "rear" . )) Wow, this is the kind of joke I make all the time on this blog. Big deal. Should it be on an official Twitter account? Probably not, but that's pretty much the concept of “booth babes”. You get a bunch of attractive girls to hover around your new product to make your product look better. And I find the overall anger from the writer of the story a bit amusing too. Please take it down a notch Bianca Bosker. I also love how other people are pointing out the “sexist” approach the other photos are. Really? Would you...

Game of Thrones Season 2 finale thoughts

Image
Game of Thrones Season 2 finale thoughts I got to say I was a little surprised by some of the things that transpired on last nights episode. (like the burning of Winterfell) And, there were some nice payoffs too like the Daenerys and the dragons storyline. Overall, I really like the payoff of this more complex season of stories. My only gripe is that they should have combined this episode with the last episode and made it into a movie event. -Horse Poop: We get a close up of it. That is all... -I can watch the House of the Undying dude get burned over and over again. I understand why he captured Daenerys, but he should have know that it would have made them powerful enough to breathe fire. -Brienne and Jaime sitting in a tree...: After Brienne kills those Stark men with the quickness, Jaime looks at her with admiration. Do I sense a relationship being born here? I really like Brienne. George RR Martin seems to like making the outcast in his world into unlikel...

NYC Soda Ban rant...

Image
NYC Soda Ban Does Having government telling you what to drink seem right? This is the wrong direction to fight America from being fat. The government doesn't need do this. It's call personal responsibility. Instead of sitting around for hours playing videogames or TV shows, how about going out to walk or jog? Look, I've limited my intake of soda a great deal to the point I've given up my beloved Coke (I do drink a Mexican Coke from time to time). The only true soda I drink is an energy drink, and I've cut back on that too. I drink a lot of juices now...like the Turkey Hill stuff. And, I do feel healthier today. I exercise more than I did say five years ago, but it still comes down to personal choice.  I made the choice.   And, you can't use the healthcare cost argument because we don't truly have government healthcare. From Huffington Post, (( New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg plans to propose a far-reaching municipal ban on sale...

GI Joe: Retaliation: Pushed back to 2013 (yikes, nine months)

Image
GI Joe: Retaliation: Pushed back to 2013 (yikes, nine months) From LA Times , (( Paramount Pictures has delayed the release of its sole summer action movie, "G.I. Joe: Retaliation," from June 29 until March of next year, an unexpected shift that leaves the studio without a big-budget "tentpole" hitting theaters in 2012. )) That was a pretty ballsy move considering that they promoted the hell out of this movie and the trailer made the movie out to be pretty slick and cool. People were actually looking forward to this movie it seems. Out of nowhere, they pull their biggest movie from the summer lineup? Something is not right about this. Now, Paramount did give a reason...kind of. From LA Times , (( Paramount decided to delay " G.I. Joe " to convert it to 3-D, said a person close to the studio who was not authorized to be identified discussing the matter publicly. The conversion could help to boost box-office receipts for "Ret...

JW and magic?

Image
Don’t play with magical toys…enjoy I’ve had a few friends that were JWs like this and there is a lot of truth to what they believe in this video.  What did we learn from this video?  Throw away your toys?  That this form of CGI is very creepy?  I personally don't have a problem with them, because they are not even close to being annoying like the Scientology folks.  They mostly keep to themselves.  I just find some of their beliefs strange, but they don't have strange groups like the Squirrel Busters .

Stay Alive (remember this movie?)

Image
Stay Alive (remember this movie?) A video game that kills you after you play it.  Sound familiar?  You can get the same outcome playing Superman 64.   No one remembers this movie.  Bascially, you throw “The Ring” and “Grandma’s Boy” into a blender and you get this.  It was a teen horror film with a PG13 rating, so you know it will be shit.

What is wrong with this dude?

Image
What is wrong with this dude? Is he high or drunk? I also like that different groups of people pushed him around. At one point, he just sits there after getting his ass kicked. The best part is Yellow Shirt Man punches him out and then drags him to shade. That's pretty nice of him. When he wakes up, do you think he's going to wonder why his head hurts? Also, a commenter mentioned the verb “Amber Lamps” when describing the reactions from the other people.
