Tropic Thunder Part 1 of 2

Image
Tropic Thunder Part 1 of 2 Ben Stiller, who directed this movie, is having a lot of fun making Hollywood look awful in this story. The movie is funny and surprisingly entertaining on an action level too. Stiller needs to be commended for his impressive action scenes. The movie isn’t always laugh out loud , but the movie is consistently funny. And, some people might not get all the layers of humor that Stiller and his writing team have put in the script. There are a few pacing problems that keep this movie from being really great, but it is still one of the better comedies to come out this summer. The basic summary of the story is that an over-budgeted Vietnam movie is in danger of being shut down because of its movie star cast. The cast is full of stars that don’t want to behave, led by Ben Stiller’s action star character Tugg Speedman. The writer of the book, that movie within the movie is based on, suggests that the director take his actor out in the real wilder...

Justice League movie?

Image
Is the Justice League movie in the crapper? ( Justice League: Mortal ) http://www.themovieblog.com/2008/08/justice-league-killed-until-further-incarnation Please tell me this is true. The Movie Blog is reporting that this movie has been ‘tabled’ for the near future. Every time I heard about the casting I’d shake my head. And, for a while WB was hell bent on making this train wreck of a movie. It felt like Justice League on the CW. I still think WB wants to ram this movie out there bad or good no matter what. Since they have a very young cast, which I find stupid, I can see them trying to sell this to the younger crowd. And, none of the cast members have that much work under their belt. I’m not saying that’s always a bad thing to have no-names under your movie, look at Christopher Reeve . You have to surround them with seasoned actors though. Reeve was the star, but pros, Ned Beatty, Marlon Brando, Glenn Ford, and Jackie Cooper encircled him. This movie ...

Another 48 Hrs.

Image
Eddie: "Don't hold Meet Dave against me, or Norbit." Another 48 Hours I watched this follow up to the first movie (48 Hours) a few weeks ago and found myself really enjoying this movie more than I did back in the day. While it isn’t as good as the first movie, this one has some charm and violence that you don’t see in these PG-13 movies today. Plus, there are some memorable lines. My favorites are these: Reggie : You think I'm happy about being here think again. I'm supposed to have money in my pocket and a new life and the last thing I wanted was to be hooked up to your dumb ass again and you? You're about two steps away from where I was yesterday so you're not running shit. I'm gonna lay it out straight Jack: I don't like you and I don't trust you. Jack : O.K. cut the bullshit ok? Give me something I can use. Reggie : The Iceman? The Iceman bought your house. Jack : Now God damn it! I said cut the bullshit! Reggie : I ...

Bully takes the stage

Image
Cyberbullying is wrong? Taken from the Urban Dictionary : ((A phrase to describe the use of such entities as myspace, youtube, or any form of chat/free online discussion for the purpose of trash-talking one's peers. Used often by ill-informed middle aged "experts" such as teachers, soccer moms, liberal politicians, social workers, and school administrators who seek to demonize and censor myspace or any other free web usage. Cyberbullying is often played up as a major threat to youth, although only a very small percent of young internet users are actually offended by others' trash talk and take it to heart enough to actually consider it bullying. And, as so often happens, a few ruin it for the rest of us. )) I swear the Ad Council has some of the worst ads possible, but this one is freaking funny as heck. It's a talent show, and a girl steps up on stage and starts to insult another child (Patty) in front of the rest of the student body. Patty takes all t...

The So-So Debaters

Professor goes nuts... I really don't know what to say about this clip. Nerds can get heated too. The Professor starts yelling at the black lady and then moons her (point blank). After watching this video, I actually want to get into this professor’s class! Any man that fells that intensely about a subject is someone I want teaching me...or maybe not. I'd certainly never fall alseep in his class, because I might get t-bagged or something. I also like the fact one guy, the guy in the yellow shirt, starts to cry and continue to cry throughout the video. Come on, dude, be a man and stop crying over stupid stuff. I mean really why is he crying? So who is this Professor? You can check out his blog , before it's taken down. So in debate, when someone starts getting loud and rude, you show your backside? I'm guessing it would shut people up. I'm probably going to try this next time I get into a debate or argument. (Note: If you watch carefully, the a...

Harold & Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay (Unrated Version)

Image
Harold & Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay (Unrated Version) I wasn’t a huge fan of the first Harold and Kumar. I didn’t like many aspects about the first film, but I didn’t enjoy some of the jokes. Plus, Neil Patrick Harris was funny in all his scenes. While I didn’t get most of the pot humor, I liked the fact that it starred people other than white people. So, I went into the second movie excepting to hate it. However, I like more than the first movie, but not by much. The story is still loosely strung together and dumb, but there is large amount of nudity and cussing in this movie. In any other movie, this would feel shoehorned in, but here it works because the story is rather dumb. When your script is weak throw in some boobs. I have to say the Bottomless Party is by far the best idea ever conceived in film. We need to see this become a real in out life time. There’s not much more to say other than the film is better than the first film, but not...

More info

And, the plot thickens... Anyone that's a long time reader of this site knows that there are a few blog post that have gotten me some unwanted attention (Cheerleaders and a certain female drunk driver), but one that really hit home was the post about the guy that murdered an unarmed man in the middle of a restaurant parking lot. I found myself talking to the police over it and so on. What's crazy is the fact this post has been used in court documents and has pissed off some people at work. But, it should be noted also that some people have left comments on the post. Two of them seem to be from people that knew him. (One attacks me) Well, yesterday someone else left a comment on the post and this one really shocked me and I felt bad for them. This person went after the two Anon comments. And this person was really upset, and rightfully so. I have to agree with this person. (Keep in mind, I didn't write the comment. Okay, Lawyers?) So, read on below. ((I don...

Pineapple Express

Image
Pineapple Express Here’s a side note, if you will. I went to the ticket booth to buy a ticket for Pineapple Express. A fairly old guy behind me, who looked like Isaac Asimov , came up to my side after I asked for my ticket and asked, “What’s that movie about?” I smiled and said, “It’s a pot movie.” He nodded, but looked rather confused by my answer. And, that’s what PE is about, pot. It’s a movie full of people smoking pot and shooting people. So, what’s the premise? A pot smoker goes on the run with his dealer after witnessing a murder. Think of this movie as a Harold and Kumar film, but with better writing. It has all the story beats as the Harold and Kumar, but also an added bonus of being an action movie too. While it has a better script, the movie isn’t exactly that good either. This probably has something to do with the pot-smoking culture, which I’m not a member of. I just don’t “get it”. But, there are some witty moments that make this movie ...

Isaac Hayes has died

Image
He was one bad Mother...shut your mouth ______________________________________________________ I’m becoming a Death Blog, but more sad news to report. Music legend Isaac Hayes has passed away. Check out the news here . ((Hayes, best known for his pop/R&B classic ''Theme From Shaft'' and more recently as the voice of Chef on South Park , was found next to an active treadmill by relatives, according to reports from the Shelby County Sheriff's Department in Memphis, Tennessee. Attempts to revive the singer were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead in Memphis shortly after 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. )) One thing was certain; Hayes wasn't in the best of health after his stroke, which is sad because he took care of his body in his later years. Like James Brown, his music has influenced many rappers and R&B singers of my lifetime and will continue to. I still listen to his Shaft theme song in my car just to pump me up (that and the Knigh...
