Did you know that Eric Stoltz was the first Marty McFly in the Back to the Future movie?
From The Hollywood Reporter, ((But Fox was not the original McFly. In fact, Eric Stoltz was five weeks into shooting the famed McFly role when director and co-writer Robert Zemeckis made a drastic production decision -- changing his lead actor.))
Five weeks is a lot of footage to completely reshoot, because Marty McFly is in about every scene in the movie. Can you imagine the money it cost them to reshoot with Fox? I heard it was longer that.
MJF was their first choice, but that Family Ties guy wouldn’t budge on releasing him for the movie.
Also, after they got rid of Eric, they fired Melora Hardin as well as Jennifer Parker. Claudia Wells was brought in as Marty’s love interest. Wells would leave when the sequels were announced and the very cute Elizabeth Shue replaced her. There are conflicting reports as to what exactly happened to Wells out there.
I remember for a long time that the producers of Back to the Future were very apprehensive of showing the dropped footage of Stoltz as the original McFly before Michael J Fox took over. For the upcoming 25th Anniversary Blu-Ray, they’re finally showing some footage of the Eric Stoltz version of McFly. From the footage, it really does look like Stoltz is channeling a darker version of McFly.
Now, will they show all the raw footage of Stoltz’s performance?
Here is Fox doing a shot for shot remake of the teaser trailer.
Lea Thompson still looks great though. Like "DAMN!" great.
ReplyDeleteThough of all the hot 80's women, Phoebe Cates is the one that looks like she hasn't aged. She's... just amazing.
