I had no idea that Rene was sick. He died at the age of 79 from metastatic lung cancer. While I remember him from Benson, I fondly remembered him from the show DS9 as the outsider character of Odo. Heck, Rene was Odo in every way. He was as much of the character as Brent was to Data. Odo is still one of my favorite characters from DS9.
The man was busy. From The Patriot to Star Trek VI, he’s been in nearly every franchise. Not only did he work on live TV and movies, but he did a great deal of VO work in videogames. Take a look at his long list of roles.
Anyway, he will be greatly missed. RIP Rene.
