Is the Zookeeper a time traveler?
It looks like companies are digitally inserting new ads into old TV shows. What?
From the Hollywood Reporter, ((The magazine with the Zookeeper ad behind Robin (Cobie Smulders) was most likely digitally inserted prior to the recent repeat airing. A better answer: Someone foresaw four years ago that Zookeeper would surface at some point in the future.))
Why would someone want to insert an ad for a new into rerun from 2007? I’m okay with product placement from the time it was produced, but this is stupid. And, why promote that Zookeeper movie? Are the audiences for the show/movie the same?
The company behind this new insert goes by SeamBI (Seamless Brand Integration). Their site promotes that their ads are DVR proof because they insert them into the actual show. From EW, ((The company’s CEO Roy Baharav calls SeamBI an “advertising technology innovator” and says that what they do — in essence, monetizing aging television shows by adding new brands and product placement into old episodes — is the future. “What we do is we insert, very efficiently, brands into content in a natural way and in a way that is valuable to advertisers,” Baharav says. “So we find the balance between not compromising the integrity of the content and, on the other end, bring a lot of value to the advertiser.”))
But, Zookeeper? Really?
I just hope when I’m watching a rerun of Star Trek TNG, there isn’t an insert of a McDonald’s Happy Meal CGI-ed into a shot of Picard’s ready room. What’s next porn?
lol product placement in porn!
ReplyDeleteI think this is actually a pretty savvy business niche for them, but I agree, Zookeeper? It would be funnier if they placed Zookeeper in old episodes of King of Queens.
They probably don't get to choose what products are placed though, which makes me more inclined to forgive them for this one.
I should be that angry, they were inserting products into Law & Order reruns for years now. It just seems strange to shove Zookeeper into the background. It might be the backlash from the overpush of the Zookeeper movie.
