Star Trek: The Next Generation THE MOST TOYS Saul Rubinek vs David Rappaport

The Most Toys is one of my favorite episodes from TNG.  It is a very dark episode during the final act.  Saul Rubinek does a masterful job playing Kivas Fajo in the episode.  This is interesting and tragic because he had to take the role mid-filming.  The first actor, David Rappaport, had some serious personal demons and attempted to kill himself on the weekend break.  Despite filming for two days, the studio and producers had to let him go.  Rappaport was the main Time Bandit in that movie, which the rest of the cast seemed to dislike.  He would later kill himself two months later from his firing on TNG.

I’ve heard different stories as to how Saul got the last-minute casting.  My favorite is story is that Saul was a huge fan of Trek and took a tour and the director begged him to take the vacant part.  The rest is history and Saul became a terrifying villain

Having watched Rappaport’s deleted scenes, his take on Fajo was different from Saul’s take.  Saul plays him as a rich prick that reminds you of those Trekies that collect things at conventions.  Saul plays him as a high class guy with some darkness.  David played him much darker with some serial killer vibes.

Saul added that dropping the gun in disgust that I don’t think Rappaport’s take would have.  Saul added that, showing that he was willing to torture Varria, but now crossed the bridge with murdering her.  It makes him sick.
