Staind - It's Been Awhile


Someone at work called these “angry single middle-aged white man” songs “your angry uncle” genre.  That makes more sense, it is usually a frontman with some relationship issues with some power chords backing him in his heart-felt apology with some anger thrown in for good measure.  You should generally have some arm tattoos and sweat on stage when you grab the microphone.   Having a soul patch is optional.  
Did I mention that Fred Durst directed this music?   You can throw Limp Bizkit and Nickelback into the “angry uncle music”.   I actually like the song and it is a product of the 2000s.  Could you see this genre returning in the 20s?
