A Black
Stormtrooper? So What?
There seems to be
some ignorant people out there complaining and making jokes about
John Boyega being black. Is there really a problem with his skin
color being a factor when there are aliens with numerous colors and
backgrounds?
From
Salon.com, ((Stormtroopers,
some fans are arguing, are clones of a white bounty hunger Jango
Fett. Of course, others are pointing out that eventually the ranks of
stormtroopers were made up of recruits rather than clones ))
Uh,
even Lucas has come out and stated that Stormtroopers and Clone
Troopers are different things. The ST're are enlisted men from the
academy. Clones more or less have died out with only a few in the
ranks. I just don't understand why there is a problem? It is not
like they're forcing the race thing down our throats and making it a
preachy point in the story.
It
is just a guy that happens to be black. So, what? I won't have a
problem with him if he were gay as long as it is part of his
character. The story comes first and the message should come
organically to the story. The characters races or sex shouldn't be
the Star Wars story. (BTW, the woman and black man will be the main
characters.)
How do you make Sci-fi inclusive? By making the hero black or female and NOT making a point about it in the story. Yes, this hero is black or female, but I am going to write as the story sees fit.
Boyega
took the attacks head on with a statement. ((“Thank
you for all the love and support! The fan mail and fan art has added
to my joy! Isn’t it crazy that Star Wars is actually happening? I’m
in the movie but as a star wars fan I am very excited! A year is a
long time but it will be worth the wait.
“To whom it may concern…
Get used to it. :)” ))
Well,
said and not too preachy. And, now we drop it right?
