Fanboys

"I got a good feeling about this..."

Fanboys

After all the wait and controversy, the movie has finally been released. The movie was released to the theaters in a limited release. The movie quickly disappeared and was finally released no DVD recently.

After all the controversy, how does Fanboys hold up?

It’s not bad, but certainly not the fanboy orgasm that nerds and geeks wanted. The movie has many funny moments, but there are times when the writing falters and we see the flaws come to surface. There are times when the foolishness doesn’t help the movie.

It is the writing that keeps this film from being great.

There is much love for Star Wars in this movie. And, there is a lot of hate for Star Trek fans. I thought that worked for the most part. I knew everything they talked about during the Star Wars talks, and that just shows how much of a pop culture fanboy really I am.

So, what about the cancer storyline? There should have been more of it. The movie needed a bit more this serious storyline to balance out the other stuff. I know they didn’t want to keep reminding people that one of the Fanboys will have a slow and painful death, but I needed more about their reactions to this guy’s fate. This is where the movie needed dive into, and we only touch the surface.

I did like the way they handled the ending with the cancer storyline though. Nicely done.

The movie feels a like it should have been R-rated, but it doesn’t hurt it that much. It’s an okay movie, but it could have been so much better. There is enough to keep you entertained.

Grade: C+

-Kristen Bell is hot, but her character needed more screen time and more character development.

-Seth Rogen is great as the Star Wars fan Pimp. But, I didn’t really like his take on a trekkie.

-Kevin Smith’s cameo is very random and doesn’t make sense.

-I was a little disappointed with their take on the Lucas Ranch.
